Re: Thinking of buying the TRD cat back and air filter
See this TRD Tundra Exhaust review for performance numbers for the cat-back system, but unfortunately we haven't tested any drop-in air filters yet. My guess is that they're not much better, but they don't cost a lot and they sound pretty sweet, so I would recommend it.
Re: Thinking of buying the TRD cat back and air filter
I bought a flowmaster 70 series and had a local muffer shop run the pipes for me. All to gether it cost me 270.00. This is a very quiet muffler. Barely louder than stock. A little torque gain if you squint one eye and concentrate.
If you are looking for loud, get a different muffler. last I looked those TRD kits started at 600.00 and went up from there. There is a far better deal to be had, unless you don't mind spending the money. Either way, that TRD set up is not going to run any better than mine.
Like all after market accessories, there is a lot of argument about just how much power this exhaust kit adds. Generally speaking, after market exhausts by themselves offer little in the way of additional power. Typically, the most you’ll see is a 3-5 hp gain with just about any cat-back system. The TRD kit is no exception — our tests show that the TRD Dual Exhaust for the new Tundra added anywhere from 1 to 5 hp. Unfortunately, the increase in horsepower varied quite a bit depending upon RPM. That’s why we like that “3-5hp” number. Check out the dyno performance graph below.

I guess I went the less expensive route. The TRD was $1100. I customed my exhaust and only paid $583 for Borla's. The drop in oiled filter from AFE works great. The stock air box has great flow.

If you went the less expensive route, then I went the very cheap route. Drop in filter will be here tomorrow, then I am finished with mods. At least till they have a programmer come out and the price is fair.
Re: Thinking of buying the TRD cat back and air filter
I love the TRD stuff! I did the intake on an afternoon, and the cat back the next sat morning. I like the sound and the fit was perfect. I looked at other companies but went with the more "expensive" route, I know that $ may be a consideration but I feel like the TRD intake/exaust did add power. I like the sound too, it's a bit more throaty but not too much.
