Default headlight wattage?

No this is not more complaining about how I get flashed when my brights are not on, and numerous searches still did not answer my question. So does anyone know the wattage of the factory headlights?

I was waiting for this subject to come up! I get flashed very frequently by cars that approach me when I've got my non-bright lights on. I now wait until I'm on the highway before turning on the fog lights just out of courtesy, if that helps them. I love the brightness but car drivers apparently don't.

Not sure if this is an issue on non-TRD models; I figured it was due to the high-output alternator on the TRDs that might produce a little more voltage, making the lights that much brighter. But that's just a guess. Screw car drivers.

People in cars flash you because you are in a truck. Their head is level with your headlight.

Well, you're wrong about it being off-topic if you use the subject of the thread as a basis, but you're right about the alternator. I must have been mistaking the high-output alternator as an option in my old Ford.

In any case the Tundra headlights are very bright and its not just because its a truck. I pass another Tundra at work every morning and experience those bright lights. Is 55W high usage for a truck lamp? I think the lens and reflective background make the light very efficient, plus they are focused at car-head level so that's a factor but not the only reason. I've ticked off a few people in smaller cars in front of me when I pull up behind them and illuminate their faces in their rear view mirrors...sort of funny in a sick way.

55w is a standard low beam wattage.

I think the Tundra's headlight aim is a bit high.. the other day I was driving my truck... then I saw an oncoming vehicle.. with what I thought were high beams... I was about to flash them... when I saw it was another Tundy!... needless to say it was funny.. I got some of my own medicine.

The headlights are aimed too high. Mine were actually point slightly upwards. I've since corrected them and I don't get flashed anymore. Once adjusted properly, they're really nice headlights. The beam patterns is flat and wide instead of the "tunnels" of light on some other vehicles. The only thing I wish is that the beam pattern included a ramp up to the right like my RAV has. It helps illuminate road signs better.

Really, did you ever try to figure out why the headlights from an oncoming Kenworth or Peterbilt don't blind you? Possibly because they're correctly adjusted. It's been discussed to death, there's many new Tundras out there with improperly adjusted headlights.

Right, looking at the low beam pattern, mine are just like my Ford F-250 and I never get flashed when driving either one. It's not the mounted height of the lights themselves, it's the drop of the beam per X number of feet out in front of the vehicle.

My headlights had to be dropped a bunch with my lowering kit since the rear was dropped a lot more than the front making the lights aim more skyward. With headlights aimed to the ground fairly early and completely out of people's eyes you can actually see the road better especially on rainy nights where the road surfaces acts like a black hole.
