TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Traded in my 07 4x4 CM Limited...", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hi guys... it was a great 6 months with the Tundra... purchased it because I needed something to pull my boat 7000#'s) and Toyota didn't have an SUV capable of this (my 03 4Runner v8 "could" do the job.. but didn't feel safe.) Anyway.. after 6 months i just realized i wasn't a truck guy... don't need a bed, miss the SUV back end, and i just didn't like the ride you get from stiff springs and an empty bed. But i do love the 5.7 and tranny.. can't find a better powerplant. Anyway.. we were waiting for the new Sequoia but we were really disappointed that they kept the Tundra interior (too much plastic for a $59K SUV.) Really loved the new Landcruiser... but $72K is over the top. We stumbled onto a great deal on the new 08 Armada (they did a major refresh... Infiniti level interior, great tech (XM traffic, 9GB HD for music, etc.) keyless ignition... and even a heated steering wheel. $52K MSRP loaded (DVD, NAV, etc.) and with the rebates and a dealer willing to "deal" we managed to get the Armada for $41K (found a black/black 08 that rolled off the delivery truck 5 min before we showed up.) The price was right and we are very happy to be back in an SUV. The 5.6 is nice.. but it's not the 5.7/6sp like the Tundra.. but it will get the job done.
I have been a Toyota driver for 12 years... so kind of sad to say goodbye. But i am sure i will be back some day... maybe i will pick up a used LandCrusier in a few years when they are more affordable.
Cheers all... and enjoy your Tundras... Great truck... no complaints... just not the right vehicle for us.
Cheers, -greg

Armada is one nice vehicle and your price was outstanding. You won't be disappointed.
I remember when I left the Ford 500 forum and told them I missed my truck so the 500 was being replaced by a Tundra, I was called a traitor and every despicable name you could think of and the Tundra was the biggest POS ever made. Tundra owners show so much more class. Good Luck!
You think the Tundra interior is cheap plastic, yet you like the ARMADA interior? LMAO!!!
I don't fault you for trading, but after owning three Titans (one of which I went ALL out nd spent hundreds of dollars upgrading the interior, including QX56 plastics, two-tone dash, real wood trim shift panel AND steering wheel - yes I did add the button blanks at a later date ) I find it hilarious that you find those interior materials an upgrade over the Tundra. The overall, symmetrical design is much nicer than the Tundra's layout, but the tannish materials are subpar. I know the '08 Armada has a different layout (that is very similar to the interior of the Nissa Versa compact car), but the materials haven't improved, IMO. But you know what they say about opinions, and all that matters is that you are happy. At least I hope you are, so you don't have to take any more trade-in baths!
I think you made the best choice out the large SUV's available. Toyota needs different interior designers.
I think it's kind of silly that Toyota doesn't provide a better system audio system yet Nissan offers a Nicer bose hdd Navi. This system is one of the very best when it comes to navigation. Hdd has 3d birds eye view and the hard drive which is much better on voice rec command's on pulling up music on based off track and title (voice commands). This system beets out the lame Pos found on the Toyota Jbl product's which in very Low budget in this clas. Toyota need's to get it's act together and start producting the right stuff this is indeed not only crappy but greedy on it's options listed.
This updated interior is much nicer vs the all new Tundra and 08 seq but better managed.Toyota does need to address the interiors too many overall complaints coming from current 07 plus owner's/media. The silver must go look's like a Cheaper Tacoma product even a few friends who owns the 07 Tundra make suggestions on improvements to the interiors.beyond that not much to find fault with on the Toyota product's if They address these changes It would improve the quality on the Toyota as a whole.

The first photo is the old Armada int... the second one shows the new int... you really can't compare the two. The new Armada doesn't use cheap lame plastics.... even the door handle is metal. And they used a lot of stiched leather throughout. We purchased my mom an Infiniti M45 last year... basically the Armada had the same interior now (without the clock... but if you want the clock.. the QX has it where the Armada has an iPod holder. I looked at the 07 Armada a while back and can't imagine anyone purchasing a car with that interior... but the new one is a whole new ballgame. They also adjusted the suspension for a better ride, etc... and took away the lame overdone chrome on the outside.

I think the interior of my CM is great. Is it as good as my F-150 Crew Cab?....yes and no. There are areas where each is better and each is no better. The only area Toyota needs to change or offer an option is on all the silver areas. A really cheap solution is another color and texture. Just make the color the same as whatever the seats are, and get rid of the sandpaper texture, walla...fixed. In addition; as an option, offer the fake carbon fiber stuff, and now the complaints go away.
Good luck man, out of curiosity how much of a beating did you take trading it in?
wasn't too bad considering i was dumping a 6 month old truck. I paid $40 and they gave me $35K (which wasn't inflated in the deal since i got $10K off MSRP on the Armada.)

Good choice on the Armada...I have an '06 Pathfinder and I'm happy with it..got enough room as is and the interior looks are not bad..My wife drives it most of the time..Anyways, I used to own an X5 and I miss it..I did test drove the new Audi Q7 SUV couple of weeks ago and its nice but the price is overboard and so is the Cadillac Escalades and its poor gas mileage..by next year we'll planning on a lil bit bigger SUV...so Armada, Denali maybe...or BMW X6...
but as far as the new Tundras interior I love it...whole lot different and better than my previous '03 and '06 Tundras interiors...

I agree, my CM interior is far superior to my bud's Ford and a Sierra a guy at work has. This truck is luxury inside as far as p/u's go.

In term's of audio updates over the Crewmax do you like the Nissan Hdd better vs JbL? I agree with you about the interiors on the new 2008 Armada a welcome upgrade that Toyota needs to do on the present Tundra soon. I think Toyota took a huge disappointment on the overall dash design on the New Tundra and all new 08 Seq.Personally I think the new Seq asking price of $65 k is very Overated for a Toyota. I'll buy a Lexus over a Toyota anyday in that price range better yet a 5 series Bmw for me since I don't like Lexus..
