Default 4x4 launches???

Ok so I'm sort of new to the whole truck thing and I have a delima. When I stand on it from a dead stop obviously the tc takes over when I turn it off the the auto lsd brakes certain wheels slowing me down and then when I launch in 4hi in first it pulls like a vette but then in second or thierd 4wheel seems more sluggish in the upper ends than 2 wheel. So my questions are 1 how bad excactly are 4 wheel drive launches for my truck and 2 what is the best way to get max numbers out of your tundra which variation and hat techinque thanks alot

i am not an expert by any means but unless the vehicle is AWD, u can not do a 4wd launch. 4wd launch on a part time 4wd system=broken tranny, transfer case. some1 correct me if i am wrong.

It's a definite no-no to use 4 wheel drive on a hard surface......especially when putting the hammer down. Had it been a lessor truck (non Toyota) you may have already grenaded the transfer case.

You may use a part-time 4WD system on dry pavement/road in a straight line. Turning will bind the system up because the transfer case needs wheel slippage since it lacks a center differential. Toyota recommends switching into 4WD for 20 minutes in a straight line once a year for maintenance purposes if it is not being used.

Some of the magazines that tested the Tundra's acceleration had to use 4WD because it lit up the tires too much with a 2WD launch. *shrug* Just don't turn in 4WD on dry pavement and you won't bind up the system. Binding is what leads to damage. Splitting the torque will certainly help traction.

Pre-load the torque converter a bit, and launch.

Yep, lots of track time in 4HI over the years, no problems.
