TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tranny vibration....", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I did search and couldn't find what I wanted. I have a 07 5.7 4x4 w/ 1000mi. build of 9/07.I had the tc replaced @ 400mi.due to "rumble strip". I still have a vibration/slip in first and second under hard acceleration. It's going back to dealer again.I was wondering if anyone else experiencing this and what can be expected from dealer. My enthusiasm is fading.john
Hang in there John. Once your Tundra is working like it should, you will enjoy it. I have a great dealer. Toyota dealers should go above and beyond to keep us happy. Don't expect anything less.
I've got the same problem with mine ( without the slip ) but have had no work done yet. Mine was built Aug 2007. Would appreciate if you could post solution if dealer finds it.

will do. it is going in on thurs. I am not sure mine is slipping but it gives that sensation.
I've never had what I would call "rumble strip' vibration , but I have always had the vibration or occilation you describe under hard acceleration from a standing start. (14000 mi now) In my opinion what we are feeling is the universal joints pulsing under heavy torque. Often in other vehicles this is due to binding of the slip yoke or splines of the driveshaft while under heavy torque loads. I would expect that lubrication of these splines would help our vibration issue. Of course it could be a designed in issue. Either way my feeling is that it is in the driveshaft rather than in the trans. Probably will never hurt anything. Think of it as a rapid tire wear warning device .
I have the "rumble strip" problem and have had the tc replaced but still have the problem. Toyota next replaced the drive shaft but that did not fix the problem either. So then they wanted the drive shaft sent out to a local shop to have it balanced. Truck goes back in on Wednesday to have the balanced drive shaft installed as well as some other things Toyota is wanting the tech to do. I will post an update on Wednesday.

I feel that oscillation at higher speeds.... like 60-70 mph when it shifts (I can't recall what gear it does that in) under full throttle. Is that where you feel your oscillations at?
Damn you finstruck - I posted in your "1st-2nd" thread that I have never seen that problem. Since then I have felt it 3 or 4 times. It is so slight, though, I almost have to look for it.

Dealer called me this afternoon after replacing the drive shaft and trying some other things that Toyota instructed them to do and guess what.....
problem is still there. They want to keep the truck overnight and bring in a Toyota rep tomorrow to take a look. The dealer has been really good to work with, but I must admit I am losing my patience with Toyota. This was the 3rd attempt to fix the problem, maybe I should just ask for a new one!
I will post an update tomorrow after the rep has a chance to look at it.

I'm growing older but not up. My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck. j. buffett
The bottom line is that the dealer said although there is a definite issue there is no solution as of now. He had me drive an 08 cm and it did the exact same thing. He opened a case and said he would get back to me next week.john
I have same problem with my two week old 08' CM 4x4, very slight at times, makes you look at the road to see if you went over some tractor marks on the road, very wierd. I am bringing mine to dealer on next week as I also have a rattle front dashboard near window. (maybe "american made" wasn't such a great thing after all?
So here is the latest on my rumble problem. The toyota rep went for a drive and confimed that there is in fact a problem. He was very surprised that none of the solutions tried so far have resolved the problem. He looked at the entire drive line and does not like the way the rear housing assembly looks, something about a weld and it seems the entire axel housing is misaligned. So now I am getting a new rear axle assembly housing. Not sure how long it will take to get it, but I will post an update once I have one. On a side note I made a call to Toyota to log a case, should be getting a call from a case manager on Monday.
