Default turned off DRL after 6 months of trying

just stumbled on how to turn off DRL. I have read a lot of post with much frustration about not being able to shut off lights from time to time. I went out tonight to start the truck and engaged the parking brake before starting the engine. to my supprise no DRL. I have tried the parking brake befor but with the engine running. If you depress the brake one click before starting the engine the DRL's Will not come on.

will they stay off after you start the truck and then release the parking brake or do you have to keep the parking brake down that one click?

Why would you want to turn the DRL's off?

I do not like the lights on when the truck is running just staying warm in a parking lot and such.

What if it's early morning and your idling down a long dirt road trying to get close to your deer stand and you have these drl's on..........man, the deer love that.

If you have to ask....DRLs are stupid in the city. What do they have motorcycles do to stand out in traffic, turn on their headlight. In a sea of cars with their headlights on, do you think the motorcycle stands out anymore?

On a long stretch of 2 lane highway, yes the are helpful when passing but most people only are in that situation about 5% of the time. Canada and GM are he ones shoving this supposed safety feature down our throats. Why is it that GM skirts the DRL issue in the Corvette by using only the park lamps in the front.

I'm not so opposed to the park lamps on as the actual headlight. Given a choice, I rather not have either. I was looking at trucks in SET before I bought mine. It looks like they install DRLs on every truck, an unwanted $40 option they force you to buy.

I haven't looked yet but obviously the DRL are interlocked with the parking break switch. Seems (if possible) installing a switch in series with the parking break switch would be the easy solution. The only issue I see is does the parking break switch control anything else other than the DRL?

Think about it this way, would you RATHER I see you than I find out you hit my mirrors while hiding in the dark? Better yet, wouldn't you WANT a pedistrian on the side of the road to _see_ you and be able to correct his/her path in orientation to your vehicle's placement? Thats what those DRL's are for -- to be able to see you down the road or up the road!

Another point for you to consider. I am hearing-impaired and cannot hear a vehicle up the road from me or even besides me, so thats another reason I appreciate the DRL's!

Sanosuke!

Maybe a stupid question, but I have an 07 Tundra DC and I don't have DRL at all. Was it an option?

Actually no, if it is controlled by a cable. If the switch is ONLY for an indication that the break is "on" and an interlock for the DRL then wiring an on-off switch in "series" would be an easy solution for controlling the DRL
