This is a discussion thread titled "4 low beeping noise!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hey guys... I tried to find this topic using search with no luck. If this has been covered then I apologize for the repost. The issue I am having is a beeping sound from the dash while 4 low is engaged. I thought at first it would just beep for a few seconds but the 4-5 times I have engaged 4 low it just beeps constantly. I believe I am enaging 4 low properly is there something I need to turn off first like the traction control? The manuel does not say anything like that. If you have any ideas I would really appreciate them
I just saw that my original message posted as well. At the time I tried to post it said that the server was busy. So I did not think they went through. Not sure if I have the ability to delete my own post. If there is a moderator that would delete 2 of the post that would be great.
Are you engaging the 4lo properly? You must be in neutral and at a stop to engage 4lo.
What are you using 4lo for? I don't think of anything I would ever use 4lo for, except for rock crawling or when you actually need to multiply the power to the wheels and minimizing the revolutions - such as rock crawling.
I have never had mine in 4 lo, but here is another thread, I guess there are also instructions on the visor from reading this thread, I will have to check mine out the next time I am in it.
Rob... Thanks for the link. I think it might be that I never moved in 4 hi. I put it in 4 hi just never moved. If that is the case I really do not like that feature. I have been around 4wd my entire life. This is the first rig I have owned with a 4wd selector knob and not an actual floor shifter. I will try it in the morning. I just reread my owners manuel and watched the CD and they say nothing about having to actually move in 4 hi first to shift into 4 low.
Actually, the manual does state that you have to moving in 4WDhi before shifting into 4WDlo.
Here is a quote from the owners manual. Shifting from 4WDhi to 4WDlo,"bring the vehicle to a complete stop".You then go through the procedure to shift into 4WDlo.
"bring the vehicle to a complete stop", that means you are already moving in 4WDhi.
I wouldn't call myself a master of the English language, but if you ask me, that "quote" does not say you need to "move" in 4HI before shifting into 4LO. It just states that you need to be completely stopped before attempting to go from 4HI to 4LO.
I think that it assumes you were already in 4hi. If not, I would assume all you have to do is let it "engage" 4hi (solid light) before switching into 4lo. Like I said earlier, I've never put my car in 4lo because I have never needed it. Besides, I really don't like ESOF. It's not reliable enough for my likings. With that said, I've never gotten it stuck in 4wd before.
I had mine in 4lo yesterday. Worked fine. I put it in 4hi in the garage, then back up about 2ft., put it in nutral, then over to 4lo. . The retard that plows our roads, buries about 10-15 feet of my driveway in a 3 foot drift. The only way I can move it (without killing myself) is to use my truck as a battering ram. That knocks the drift down to the same hieght as the bottom of the truck, so it is at least workable. I also used 4hi on the way into work today. I was in and out of whi a lot with no problem.

I tried it again today. Put it in 4 hi moved forward about 50 feet then engaged 4 low. It worked after moving in 4 hi. Before I was just trying to go straight into 4 low. Not sure If I really like having to move in 4 high first but, all well! I guess I am just used to my 97 Taco with the actual T-case shifter. I rarely use 4 high in the Taco, always just go straight to 4 low. But the Taco is a dedicated wheeler now. I guess the manuel does say you need to stop from 4 high to engage 4 low, I am just not used to doing that and misread it. Thanks for all the help guys!
We got another 4-6 inches today. I have an hour commute each way for work (on a dry day) . Had a LOT of fun today. Only problem is trying to stop with these Ragged tires. Had to keep a LOT of room between me and any other vehicles on the road.

Ahh so lucky. We have a few inches on the grass and sidewalks that is slowly melting.
I'd hate to drive in that kind of weather for an hour or so but I love driving in it for fun and when there are no other cars around. It's so much fun to just mess around in that weather.
