A lot of reasons.
1: you are using the same amount of gas regardless of your tank size.
2: you can fill up where/when the gas is cheaper, and can go twice as far before you're freezing your balls off (at least here in this season) refilling again.
3: with #2 above, if you fill up at a station where gas is cheaper by 40 cents a gallon, that will save you $16.00 per refill on a 40 gallon tank.
4: when you have a big a$$ trailer, you don't want to be pulling through some of these inconvenient gas stations where you can hardly get past the pump and then you have to wait for someone to move their car before you can proceed.
5: if you travel north on some of the remote roads I travel on, you won't have to take four 5-gallon jugs of fuel in the bed of your truck in order to get home.
I want to get 600 miles out of a tank of fuel. But I'd settle for 500 miles. That would require a 50 gallon tank when towing -- ok maybe I could live with 400 miles. But I'm quite unhappy with no more than 250 miles when towing!!

Most stations (not all) around here require you to pay before you pump if you are paying with cash (which I always do). That is a REAL PITA. I have to stop every few days to get gas, which is also a REAL PITA. It would be nice to be able to go all week (approx. 450 - 500 miles) without having to stop for gas. Since Toyota aims this truck at the crowd that tows, I would think that they would have given them a little more distance.
Financially I see no difference in paying $100 to fill up my tank today, or paying $50 today and another $50 in 3 - 4 days.
This isn't something I am willing to pay $1000 to remedy though. I also won't give up bed space or install something that will hang 3"-4" under my truck. Guess I should just quit my whining and continue enjoying my Tundra.

If we like a larger gas tank for what ever reason is not that big of a deal is it? If you don need it or don't care, it's OK, how ever let those of us that want or need a big tank added to our trucks do so, we are not asking for collections or help to pay for.

Well I guess it all boils down to what is most important to you. I personally would not spend $2000 on a set of 20 or 22” wheels…but if you do, GREAT! I on the other hand WOULD spend $1000 on a hi cap fuel tank because “that suits my needs”….you don’t have to buy one do you? I would be able to justify a larger tank easier than aftermarket wheels, but that’s me not someone else. All you fellow Tundra owners out there customizing your trucks the way YOU want them THAT’S AWESOME! That is my opinion.

I second that.

When towing it really stinks spending 10 to 15 minutes getting off a interstate and not being able to get gas because the station is set up just for cars with all pumps facing the store. You then have to spend the same time getting on and back to speed.
Who is going to travel 500 miles none stop when gas go up it's going to take more money to fill up. Sometimes money you may not have want's the point of a few extra gallons and always hacking on the truck your going to stop sooner or later. You can go good bit of way with the 26 gallon tank I can go a little over a week on a tank of gas 50 miles a day some times more. You can get over 300 miles with the tank the truck has. I mean the truck is not a prius you guys like the idea now cause gas is low right now but if it goes back up you guys will be crying about how much it takes to fill up. which means spending at least over a 100 dollars to fill up
Last year I towed 3500 miles on a single trip. At 9-10mpg on a 26gal tank, realistically using 22-24 before stopping, that meant I had to stop about every 200 miles for gas. A 45 gallon tank would have extended that range to about 390 miles. On a trip of 3500 miles that meant 18 stops for gas vs 9 stops with the bigger tank. That's 9 less times standing at a pump, trying to a maneuver a 36ft TT in and out of small gas stations-which destroyed my under carriage bump stops....yeah, that's worth some money to me. More time at my destinations, less time stopping and starting.

Here's a perfect example as to why I need a larger capacity: I have 2 customers in Macon. From Chattanooga to Macon, it's 203 miles, so 406mi. round trip. With my F250 diesel, which had the 38 gallon tank but got only slightly better mileage by the way, I could fill up in the morning, stop to grab a burger on the way, arrive, do my work, and stop to get a drink for the drive home. With the 350 mile range on the Tundra, I usually stop for a burger in Unionville, then I have to fight the traffic to get to the gas station, sit in line waiting for a pump, top it off (which takes a lot of time to squeeze that last 3.5 gallons in), then get back on the road. That's probably 15-20 minutes of wasted time that could be avoided if there were enough fuel to get me there and back w/o having to refill. I also have a customer in Augusta, so sometimes I'll make the Macon run then drive up to Augusta then back home... all in one day. 600+ miles. Having the larger fuel tank would give me a lot more options on where to refuel, plus with GA being about $.10 higher per gallon... you get my point.
