I just got the same e-mail but I really was hoping for an inbed tank. If it don't come out in time I will do the 850.00 dollar buy. what are other's doing?
Great day! We have completed the installation of the new 47 gallon replacement tank.
Tank Information:
47 Gallon midship replacement tank – short bed, double cab Part number 080-01-14225 at a cost of $1085.40 plus shipping costs.
We would like to offer our web based customers and customers waiting on the system an introductory price of 850.00 through the month of March and then it will go to the standard costing. We will also offer anyone in the area that wants to come to Chico, CA free install also through the month of March.
The tank currently is fully signed off for the short bed, double cab. We are in process now of test fitting it onto a Crew max and a long bed.
You have been a great supporter and extremely patient so it was great to offer such a large cost savings up front. Please let me know if you have any questions.

We are working on the new flyer that shows some pictures. I am going to try and just go out and take some “amature” pictures to show the new tank off before the better pictures come through.
· The tank is built from a combonation of 14 and 12 gauge aluminized steel.
· No Skid plates due to the thikness of the tank
· It does use the OEM gauge and will work as it does now except it will last a lot longer. The miles to empty and range will not recalibrate with the new tank installed. The miles per gallon and average miles per gallon will work as it does now.
· The install time would be about 4 hours at a companies shop rate. If you drive to Chico, we will do it at no charge through March

$850 isn't too bad, it's about 10 tanks full of gas at current Canadian prices. I'd like to know does it hang any lower than the current tank (I need ground clearance). I don't care what the computer thinks my range to empty is, because the average mileage since last reset will still be accurate (that's fed information from the ECU which measures actual fuel injected). A skid plate would be nice, too.

I spoke again with them regarding the crewmax and other configuration, I thought all of them should be the same setup. they told me:
We have heard the same thing and even visually it looks the same.

I got a hold of Ben Winter and he stated they would have a 30 gal in bed with toolbox on sale in about 3 weeks. No prices yet. The inbed will give me 56 over 47 gal not much but another 50 t0 60 miles down the road helps.
CWIT - Since you are talking with Ben Winter at TFI. The next time you speak to him, please ask him if the Crewmax has been tested yet? The e-mail said the crewmax was still pending a test fitment...
Nice to hear that it visually looks the same as the stock tank, which means that that the tank doesn't hang lower than the side of the truck - I guess the tank is longer and fits up into the bed higher for more capacity?
Next, I want to ask is if there is a way to keep the stock tank or install this tank on the other side of the truck. TFI I believe has a setup for toher vehicles that allows you to fill both tanks from the stock fuel fill opening.
With this 5 ft 4 inch bed I can't afford to lose any space for an in bed tool box / fuel tank combo...

With the standard bed truck, there is A LOT of room behind the current stock fuel tank, to fit a bigger tank in there. Why they didn't is still a mystery to me.

Even more of a mystery is why my gauge shows 'E' and I can only put 18 gallons in it! I have an obesseive compulsive disorder about running out of fuel so I like to fill-up at half-tank, which means I can only drive about 125 miles before my urge to fill-up kicks in. I've been able to reprogram myself to go allow the fuel gauge to show a 1/4 tank now.
Another thread had some posts about how much fuel can you put in the truck when it shows 'E', so I took a chance and let the truck show it was almost empty. I wonder if anyone has actually driven until the truck shut-off and filled up. This way we would know the amount of useable gallons of fuel....

Somebody did that, I forget how much gas they put in but I believe they said they drove 75 miles AFTER the miles to empty said 0.
I don't believe that the tank will not be a little closer to the ground than the standard tank. I had one in my Duramax and it was
definitely closer to the ground. I could actual see a little bit of the tank as I approached the truck from the side. It was not lower than the rear end so it did not change ground clearance. ALso in the Duramx my low fuel light came on when I had 10 gallons left. I have an interest in getting another one but just am not sure I want to spend the $$$.

Just a thought here. With all the talk of being able to flash the ECU with tuned a/f tables and the likes, doesn't it seem reasonable that the size the gas tank can be changed as well? It appears that the DTE displayed is simply a function of the size of the tank, the current tank level, and the average MPG.
I think that the way these trucks are designed, that the trip thingy will self calculate how many miles to empty based on how many miles you have driven and mileage averaged on the first tank of fuel with the bigger tank. Some tanks mine says I have over 400 miles to empty at fill up when I have been driving with no trailer, and when towing my trailer it will say 200 and something to empty when I fill up, so I am thinking that if you drive 550 miles before the low fuel light comes on it will self learn the new fuel economy. The float is on the fuel pump module so it will still read from full to empty normally me thinks. Just thinkin out loud here.

I think you're getting different DTE because of the great difference in MPG when you are towing. I still think there is a setting in there telling the computer the tank size. I could be totally wrong.
