Why? I live here too and mine are blacked-out. There are cars that come from the factory like this. I thought it was fine as long as you don't mess with the reflector.

This worked well for me! I only cooked at 350 for 9 minutes. Also I put the "glass" back on and recooked for 4 minutes to help get it back in place.

Anyone do the rears at the bottom?

Correct me if im wrong but isnt that reflector a Safety Feature. Isnt it supposed to warn drivers of your presence from a side view? How about replacing the reflector with a small Amber LED that only lights when your lights are on? That would be EASY !

In the middle of doing mine now. Thanks 006 for the great write up and the video!!!
Just breezed through all 13 pages of posts and have'nt seen that anybody took the turn signal lense out before painting????? I removed the turn signal lense (3 easy little clips) and masked the reflector part around the bulb... i'll try and get some pic's
Thanks again 006, great mod for the budget minded.

Great info. My unit has a leak, resulting in damage to the reflector Painting the unit won't resolve this issue. I can re-seal the unit with this howto, but it won't solve the damage.

Anybody have a way to diy re-chrome / silver the reflective layer that's inside the unit (reflector)? If I can fix this for cheap, I won't have to buy an expensive new unit.

I am getting ready to do this mod and was wondering about the cleaning of the inside of the lense? I read ealier on in this post about brake cleaner, is that the inside of the outside of the lens, and is there something better to use like glass cleaner? Thanks guys for all the help.

I never touched the inside of my lenses. I used brake cleaner to remove excess adhesive once I was done with reassembly.
