TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "DIY: Black Headlight Mod with Video Tutorial", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Ok, I got tired of waiting and trying to chop the movie up, and I also realized a few moments ago that I have a freakin' website with lots of storage and bandwidth. So. I've decided to just host it, in it's entirety on my site. It's uploading now and will take a little less than an hour.
The file is a 430.5MB AVI, so it will take about an hour for anyone to download, but it's the full thing and better quality than YouTube would give. I will post the link up when it's done uploading to my site.
I want to say this right now: Please, anyone that wants to see the video, just download it. Don't stream it from my site. I have 250GB of bandwidth, but downloading won't kill that as fast as streaming will. So, when I post the link up, just right-click->save as, save it to your computer. Plus that way you won't have to deal with buffering (430MB is a lot to buffer, ).
So check back here in an hour or two and it should be up.

couldn't you use a heat gun to loosen up the glue instead of an oven?
I think the problem with that would be you can only heats a very small area at once with the heat gun, where as the oven heats the entire housing at once. After you heat one area with the heat gun and move to the next, the first area may have already cooled.

Alright guys here it is. Please right-click and save it to your computer, more people can get this video if it is downloaded instead of streamed from my site. It's a 430MB AVI, so it will take a few minutes to download, but well worth it. It's extremely detailed and, IMO, good angles. Covers everything from start to finish. Enjoy!

Only question I have is when you put the two pieces back together and lightly put the 6 torx back in and then rebaked it is, did you put your adhesive you bought on before baking it in the oven again? Will it still work after being heated up from room temp? I understand why you reheat it but with or without the new adhesive you added?
Man, I just watched the vid. Ill be giving you a call soon. Hell I might just take a day off from work to do that mod. That looks sooooooo sweet especially on that white truck. Good Job Bro.

I'm still loving it and I actually have gotten a few questions at the gas station from other Tundra owners. Looks like I could make a little side business out of blacking out Tundra headlights, lol. The best response that I've gotten so far (in person) was that it looks factory, and that's what I was aiming for. A mod that looks great, and doesn't look out of place. I think I nailed it!

I have seen head light/tail light covers all fogged up (old looking). I don't know what has caused this because it's not my vehicle - maybe old age. Does one think that painting the inside black will create more heat inside the cover causing them to have the fog up look?
I don't want to suggest anything different but how about putting on a plastic/primer coat on first before the flat black?
I can't wait to start... I'm hoping my wife leaves tomorrow for Palm Springs for the day so that she will not get in the way - She doesn't like when I changed things from it's original state !!!! Everything I own has been modified in one way or another !!
Im wondering how my Black DC will look with this mod. And what color paint. I have GLOSS Black, Flat Black and the paint for my grille on the Tahoe which is that VERY DARK Gray.
