TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Crewmax Truck bounce-not just bed-whole truck", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have an 07 crewmax 4x4 trd with 1500 miles on it. I live in Tulsa, OK. and have driven 4x4 trucks for over 20 years. I know what 4x4 trucks are supposed to drive like... (for those of you who want to say not to buy a truck if you want a lexus ride) I also own a lexus so I know what that ride is like also. Didn't understand the complaint about bouncy ride-and assumed it was a southern california problem until I went to Stillwater yesterday. My wife and I and another couple took the new truck to "show it off" on a short roadtrip. The truck started bouncing on that hwy like I couldn't believe. We couldn't even talk to each other because of it. You couldn't finish your words. I am not exagerating at all. I had a headache because of all the bouncing around for 30 minutes-- felt like someone beat the crap out of me. Until yesterday, you couldn't have gotten a negative word about a tundra out of my mouth, but after dropping 42k on a new vehicle, I am now very frustrated. I have seen posts about putting water weight things in the bed, but this is a DEFECT. I shouldn't have to buy something to store in my bed to solve this... Does anyone know if toyota is recalling this or changing suspensions for people? Please help!!!
I live in So. Cal off the dreaded interstate 10. Look in the dictionary under "bounce" and you'll see I-10 as the definition.
No bouncing here with my CMax.

i have a 07 tundra crewmax and have found that playing with the air pressure in the tires makes a big difference in the ride and handling i went up above the stated pressure and got a lot better ride and handling by using 4 more lbs in each tire
My brother was riding in the back of my truck with an open soda can and it was bouncing so bad that he lost half the soda. He had to put a paper towel over it to keep it from spilling everywhere. I can't even imagine what you guys in Cali are feeling, because although that is bad, I can imagine much worse.
FYI, I have the truck bounce problem on certain freeways here in SoCal. He describes it right on, when talking it sounds the same as if someone were beating on your back really fast, causing the voice to oscillate quickly.

Nice way to greet a newcomer with the same problem as hundreds of other people on this forum.

I can say that I have the same problem on a spot of the I40 going to OKC. It will shake the whole truck. I can see in the driver's side rear view mirror the bed jumping around and then shart shaking the whole truck. I have to hold my soda up out of the cupholder when this happens on the part of the I40. I have bought 3 bags of tubesand first and still had the bounce and then bought more bags. The bags of tubesand are 60 lb a piece and have a total of 8 bags now and the truck is better in that one part of the I40. I was having it happen on both East and West side of the I40 and with 8 bags only have a little on the West I40 and East I40 is smooth. I know that it should be that way having to put weight in the bed. I have tried playing with tire pressure before the bags and no help there. I figure that the sandbags in the bed give me extra traction so I will leave it there. I have been to 2 Toyota dealerships and complain about this problem and they know about it with no fix yet. I had one of the dealership put my tire pressure down to 25 PSI to without my premission and only noticed my tires low when I put gas in and just remembered I just had a LOF and never complained about the bounce. I thought I was getting a flat tire while at the gas station and took my truck to a tire store and they said no flat but all my tires where at 25 PSI. So when going to the dealership for a LOF make sure you tell them you want the factory tire pressure put in your tires or they will put them to 25 PSI so customer wouldn't complain about the bounce. Good luck..

The rude people need to go. Lets kick them off this site. :-)
Welcome to this site Shiftee. There are some really helpful people on this site. I get a lot of useful information from this site. Some people here will help you in anyway they can. Enjoy the site.
I have the long bed and do not always have the problem on the freeways. There are roads, however, that while not very bad at all, where the truck will start to shake so bad I feel like I need a kidney belt.
I think someone really did us a disservice when they called it "bed" bounce, but they may have been lacking a better way to describe it.
Regardless, it is real and is not the same thing as the bump you get from any truck with a suspension stiffer than a car and a light, unladen, rear end.
I don't know if the OP was trolling or not, but the phenomena is real.
It is a shame that some folks think we've all got to blow rose coloured smoke for our trucks all freaking day long.
Thanks to the guy who got agro with his troll accusations I think I'll post about the crappy paint job.
Dude, that is such a bummer. I also live in T-Town and experienced the dreaded bounce on a test drive in Muskogee, it's the only thing keeping me from purchasing at this point. Do a search on this forum for bed bounce and you will be reading for days. I've read the best things are the suretrax system in the bed and then call Toyota to open a formal complaint. I think the problem Toyota is going to have is admitting the problem because they have talked up the design.
