I've been searching dealer inventories via the net and found an 08 Tundra 4x4 on the lot that fits my needs. Decided to check it out and noticed on the sticker an added charge of 2k for "Regional Price Adjustment". WTF is this and can I tell the dealer to stick it.
Yes tell them exactly that. Two dealers in Jacksonville, Fl do the same. One had an additional 2500 the other 3500. I wouldn't buy from these types of dealers, they are telling you, you will not get nothing much off sticker if the addon is removed. Bad business.
What they're doing IMHO is setting a higher starting point for negotiation. If you know what truck you want, make an offer based on invoice. I know CR has a service that does this. A $50.00 investment can repay you $2,000 in savings.
Good luck.

I ordered my tundra using the numbers from CR (arriving in two weeks ). I took the Consumer Reports print out and it showed the invoice numbers. The dealer showed me his computer and they were identical. The only thing the dealer invoice does not show is the dealer holdback. I told my sales guy I will pay $500 over invoice and he agreed to that. I suspect that you could even make a deal for invoice and get it.
I was surprised that they accepted the offer, but they did.
I never deal with a floor salesman. I either deal with the Fleet Manager or Internet Sales Manager (sometimes the same person).
I negotiated my deal entirely over e-mail. Once the deal was done, the Fleet Manager brought the paperwork to me and I didn't even have to deal with the F & I guy trying to sell me "Credit Life Insurance" or "Extended Warranties". I only visited the dealeship to actually pick-up the truck. They would have brought it to me but I wanted to inspect it and test drive before it left the lot so they could address any issues right there.
Finding the right person and the right dealer is just as important as the price, IMO.
