Went to the second dealership that I described above, today. Asked them to enable the alarm. They took the vehicle away, and shortly thereafter it was done. $30. Cool!

Just a quick question. Once the alarm has been activated, what happens when you disconnect the battery? Does the dealer need to activate it again?

Edit: Sorry. Found the answer to my question. Disconnecting the battery does require the dealer to reactivate the alarm.

I have disconnected my battery twice (headers and intake install). It had no effect on the alarm.

That is incorrect. Disconnecting does not require the dealer to reactivate the Alarm. The feature is programmed into the ECU. The ECU has Memory that is not cleared on power removal such as settings and features.

Hi all. I just got an 08 Crewmax 4wd Tundra Grade (Base). Does anyone know if my truck is compatible with the alarm activation? If so, has anyone sucessfully activated their alarm at a dealer in SoCal? Preferably in the Inland Empire area.

Thanks,
Darren

All V8 motors with an engine immobilizer and keyless entry are supposed to be equipped with what is needed to activate the alarm. I see you have a 5.7. Do you have a key fob for the door locks? If so you should be good to go.

I bought and installed the GBS and hood switch myself then went to my dealer last Thursday afternoon. I checked in with one of the service advisors and to my surprise she called the master tech and he came out to the driveway with his laptop and set me up (along with a couple other changes I wanted - passenger seat belt chime and one touch to unlock all four doors) on the spot....no paperwork or waiting. Took him maybe 10 minutes. He walked away to take a phone call after he was done so I asked the advisor what I owed them (when I called a week earlier they said the standard hook up charge was one hour at $93/hr). She said no charge and wished me a Happy 4th! I even tried to hand the tech a $20 bill but he just shook his head and said it wasn't necessary. Very cool!

Seems to be plenty of dealerships in SoCal that will do it, but not sure about yours. I went to your dealer to see if they could hook me up and they tried to sell me a whole new alarm system. When I asked about just getting my existing system activated(I even offered to show them the instructions on how to do it) they said their service person said it wasn't possible..... ahhh yeahhhhh......rrrrrright.....
Good Luck......let us know if your successful

Thanks for the advice. I'm not too crazy about my dealer either. I bought my RAV4 there and my Tundra at Valley Hi, Victorville. I'd go back to Victorville but I don't want to drive up the hill. I may try Glendora. I've had pretty good luck there. Thanks again.

I have a factory alarm on my old turndra and if you lock it with the keyless remote and then unlock it with the key, the horn blows and lights flash until you put the KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURN IT ON AND OFF 2 TIMES TO STOP IT. THIS IS GOOD TO KNOW IF YOU GIVE YOUR KEY TO SOMEONE TO USE YOUR TRUCK AND YOU'VE LOCKED THE DOORS WITH THE REMOTE. TELL HIM TO TURN THE KEY ON AND OFF 2 TIMES TO STOP THE ALARM.

I cant believe how many stealerships refuse to entertain the idea that they possibly dont know everything! I spoke to three different ones( Joe Myers being the worst) before I got someone that knew what they were talking about. I finally ended up at Fred Hass Country on 249 if anyone in Houston wants a place to go. I got the make ready department to do the alarm and make all my doors unlock at the same time. Thanks for all your info on this site, helped me many times!

Well now, here ya go!!!

Sam Swope dealership in Etown, says they are the toyota tundra head quarters for whatever from toyota. Talked to one o the Mechanics last night. They have never heard of such a thing, it's pretty rediculas for me to think that my truck has it, and the majority do not come with it equiped. They know. O ya, "we can run your vin and tell you what is on there".

And the cou de gra. 81$ just to hook up the machine and do ANY changes/customizations.

I left before i cussed them.

any one know a good dealership in kentucky.

For refering to the techs at the dealership in such a bad way, i am sorry i should not have. This was unacceptable of me. There are several techs there and most are decent people, just had a bad run in with 1 in particular.

Last edited by chuckystoy; 07-12-2008 at 11:21 AM. Reason: I was out of line for referring to all the techs in such a bad way. i lost my temper.
