Would also like some help finding a good dealership in the So. Cal area who knows about
turning the alarm on without charging an arm & a leg. I have a 2008 CM SR5 5.7L with keyless entry and "panic" button. I'm looking for a dealership between Thousand Oaks and
Northridge. Anyone had it done in my area without a big fuss? Please let me know!

When I bought my 05, a year ago, the sales manager kept trying to sell me an alarm system, $250 and he would throw in two remotes. I smelled a rat and refused it,. It was a Saturday and he tried to tell me no one was in the shop to remove the alarm. I shrugged my shoulders and said I didn't want it. He finally relented and said go down stairs and meet the salesman to get the keys so I could leave, well when I walked up to the pickup the salesman was undr the dash with some kind of magnet or deactivating device, about the size of a walnut. He wiggled it and then jumped up as I walked up and made some excuse as to what he was doing. I had no idea and still have no idea what he did. I have the sticker in the window that says it has some alarm system, but I have no remote-keyless entry.

What d you guys think? Do I have alarm and keyless entry???? And it was simpy deactivated?

Mark, I was told that you would know for sure .. .... does all of the V-8s (Both 4.7 and 5.7) with the engine immobilizer already have the Toyota alarm installed, but not activated?

Thank you,
Rex

DIY: OEM Security System Install

have to look there, but, the 4.7 will not have the imobilizer, only the 5.7 has it. but if you have the imobilizer then look at that thread and it will clear it up for you, page 8 gets into the meat and potatoes fo the deal, although you may want to start at page 1 and ingest the whole thing to truly understand everything.....

Installed the GBS (from Sparks) yesterday. Activated alarm today at Universal Toyota in San antonio, TX. Speak with Rick, Shop foreman. Or Bobby in service.

He was surprised when it worked and thanked me for bringing this to his attention.

And he deactivated the passenger seat warning alarm, anther lesson learned.

Real good people to work with and since it seems that I was the 1st one to bring this to their attention they didn't charge me.

I have a 2008 CrewMax 5.7 V8 SR5 that came with two remotes providing keyless entry/lock/unlock and an alarm(?) giving out double horn beeps and flashing lights when activated/deactivated.

Now how do I know if the alarm is a factory one or aftermarket? The remotes have the Toyota emblem imprinted on the back of the remotes. Does that mean these are factory and for a factory installed alarm?

If that is the case, does that mean the truck has the engine immobilizer feature on it already?

Will these remotes control a remote start feature or is that a completely different remote and system altogether?

I'm so confused.

All 5.7's have the immobilizer so your set there. As far as being factory it sounds like it is. And since that is the case then the remote start will work with those same remotes.

I am in the process of installing a hood switch and a GBS.

As far as the remote start, what part do I need to make that feature usable?

Thank you!

You need the remote starter kit: Remote Starter at Sparks Toyota-Scion, Myrtle Beach, SC

Install guide is on that page as well.

Thumbs up Re: Alarm activation confirmed!

Hello all. I have been checking out this site for some time. Just recently joined and have to comment on the factory alarm. I called the dealer this morn. and asked if I could stop by and have a tech hook up his computer and make a change for me, he said OK. I stopped by later and then explained I wanted the alarm turned on. The tech writer wasn't sure but when he asked a tech, the tech said he knew what I wanted and it would only take 5 minutes. Sure enough 5 minutes later I now have the factory alarm activated and working. Thanks guys. Now I will have to get the GBS soon. Oh and the charge for this---------FREE.

I had my passive security turned on today along with unlocking the doors with one push of the remote button. The service manager said that I would have to install a security for it to work so I told him to just turn it on and I would not be upset if it did not work. Well it worked and they were surprised, but he still charged me for teaching him something new. Thanks to all the guys here on this fourm.
They also ordered some parts for my dash rattle they said there is a tsb on it. I will let you know how it turns out.
