TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Alarm activation confirmed!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
It is standard on the Limited and optional ($299 I think) on the others. Toyota clearly found it cheaper/easier to wire all the trucks for the alarm and charge $299 to "install" the option.
Many things are pre-wired on these trucks. The connections for the Glass Break Sensor and Heated Seats are two examples. On some trucks the wiring for the sonar and back-up camera are present too.

Two weeks ago I bought a 08 RCSB 5.7 SR5. The dealer already had installed a CODE ALARM system and they added $700.00 for it. I told the salesman I didn't want it so he took $200.00 off if I bought the truck. Looks like I got screwed. I'm assuming this code alarm is just the factory alarm that's been activated. I'm I correct?
Code Alarm is a brand. If they installed a quality Code Alarm, it should be better and might include more features such as motion and sound sensors. Probably has a hood switch too.
That being said, if they did the bottom end Code Alarm, then $700 (even $500) is steep.

Thanks Tonylop33. Today I took the time to give it a good lookover. Looks to me I just have the factory setup. On the CODE web site they always show a 125 db siren on their different models. I don't have that, just the 2 horns. According to my '08 manual I should have doors and hood, which I do except the hood is not working right. The manual shows a glass breakage sensor on some models but I don't have that. The salesman claimed that I have infra red protection for the windows. I don't see that either.
I'll be making some calls on Monday to see if they will make this right with me. That would be a refund of $499.00. I live in the Palm Springs CA area but bought this truck in the Phoenix AZ area because I couldn't find the truck that I wanted in So Cal., so I have that added complication. However I will not let them get away with this no matter what it takes.
Thanks again for your reply,
Frank
The Tundra alarm is OK. I recommend getting a Viper or equivalent if you have anything of value in the truck. Simply activating the alarm without adding the hood switch and the glass break sensor isn't a lot of security. Anyone that reads these forums would learn to throw a rock through the window and crawl in...get what you want and crawl out or open the door. By the time the Toyota alarm sounds you are gone.
The real alarms can detect a lot more and have 2 way paging so you can shoot the SOB in the face for focking with your truck...not to mention a better remote start, defrost controls, etc.

Infrared, eh? What assclowns. A GBS sensor is the closes you'll get to a infrared window sensor That's why it pays to know the model you are buying...those sales guys would tell you the truck has an ejector seat just to make a sale...then you call them out and leave.

I just had my alarm "activated" today. The hard part was convincing the service manager to give it a shot. So after arguing for 10 min and him printing out my trucks specs by VIN #, making phone calls, he finally relented. It was quite amusing seeing the entire service dept around my truck when they activated it. Should've took them all day to wipe the egg off their face. I'm amazed by how much the tech at the dealer don't know about their own product. I'd be ashamed if someone came into my business and showed me something about my line of work that I had no idea about. You would think that the service manager would at least lurk on these forums to see what's going on with their product. Kudos to whoever posted the tech sheet...don't think I would've gotten as far as did without it. The sad thing is it took all of 15 seconds to do it, but about 30 min to convince them to try it.
BTW my truck is the 5.7L XSP DC.
One last thing about the alarm. In my dealing with the dealer, I made the comment of saying "I just dropped over $40K on a truck and it doesn't even have an alarm?" Hell my old Tacoma came with one. The Prius I just borrowed had one. His response was we have $70K vehicles without alarms.....amazing. The new LandCrusier must have the same "issue"
I don't understand why the dealership should be confused. By your vin # they can print out what's called a Vehicle Inquiry Report and it list every single option that is on your vehicle, engine ID, paint codes, etc. Mine or my wife's is sitting right here at the computer and I'm looking at it as I type this. The dealer gave us both one when they found the models that were equipped the way they thought we wanted.
FYI I activated the alarm on my SR5, and the hood switch works fine with the alarm. I didn't add the hood switch, it was there. All I did was have my dealer hook up the scanner and activate the options I wanted. Like so many others, my dealer didn't believe it was possible at first, but they had a sharp tech who was willing to give it a try and quickly succeeded.

Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43."
Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper.
After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/18 or 35x12.50/18.
Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Foam pad above spare to help with bed bounce.
Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks and foam pad above spare. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now.
Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed.
Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.
I installed the GBS and hood switch last weekend and drove my truck to the dealer this morning and had them activated the alarm. The thing was that I talked to three service advisors and they all seemed to know what procedure needed to be done without giving me the I-don't-know-wtf-are-you-talking-about look. They did, though, charged me $49 for the labor (and a car wash) and it was done in 20 min.

I have a 07 DC 5.7 4x4, are you saying that I have a factory alarm that just needs to be turned on? What is the hood sensor switch?
If you have an engine immobilizer and keyless entry you have the alarm, It needs to be "activated" using the Toyota Techstream tool if your truck did not list the alarm on the window sticker. I guess it was cheaper for them to install it in all of them them and only turn them on if you "ordered it".
Two options that can be purchased to go with the factory alarm are a hood switch (it sounds the horn if some manages to open the hood) and the Glass Break Sensor (GBS which is a mic for inside the cab that picks up the sound of breaking glass and sound the alarm). You can activate the alarm without these options.
