TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Alarm activation confirmed!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
If you have an engine immobilizer and keyless entry you have the alarm, It needs to be "activated" using the Toyota Techstream tool if your truck did not list the alarm on the window sticker. I guess it was cheaper for them to install it in all of them them and only turn them on if you "ordered it".
Two options that can be purchased to go with the factory alarm are a hood switch (it sounds the horn if some manages to open the hood) and the Glass Break Sensor (GBS which is a mic for inside the cab that picks up the sound of breaking glass and sound the alarm). You can activate the alarm without these options.
Thanks for the info..my dealer gave me the I don't wtf ur talking about. I have the remote to open my doors and it chirps.
I went to two dealers and got the"there is no alarm system in your truck" they ran the vin number to prove it to me. I also showed both of them in the manual were it says that the passenger seat belt chime can be turned off and to see the dealer. They both would not do it saying that it was against federal law.
There is no such law, your the Customer! its their burden to prove it.Advise them you'll be speaking with the local media over your experience with this Dealership. It will then be their burden to explain why they refused you service
After they fix it,then play the Local News card anyway !!

I think I know what the answer will be, but: Is Toyota the only place that has a Toyota Techstream tool?? Do any of the larger auto parts stores have a similar tool? I would like to make about 3 changes on my truck, but it's 120 miles to the dealer and I am not sure they would know what I am talking about anyway. Sure would like to do it myself!

Just thought I would add this to the fray, I have an 08 DC SR5 TRD and the window sticker, as in the one that lists your trucks features, does not mention the alarm. There is however a round sticker on both the driver and passenger door windows that says "Toyota Alarm". I tested it and I do have the alarm.
FYI:
I had this done yesterday, I have the 5.7 V8 with keyless entry and engine imobilizer. Worked fine, took all of 15 minutes. NO CHARGE!!!
Anyone here in Jacksonville or close by can take their truck to Toyota at the Avenues, ask for Jomar, he fixed me up yesterday. I had to call around to several dealers before I found Beth at Toyota at the Avenues who knew exactly what I was talking about.
Take them a dozen dounuts or something when you go to grease the wheels;-)
I too took my tundra to the dealer to have the alarm enabled
At first the 'master tech' said I dont have a alarm. I asked him to try.
Well he did try. I worked. I slipped him a 20 spot.
He did tell me, if you disconnect the battery the feature will reset to disabled!!!!
Need to hook up a battery thru the lighter socket. Any comments on this?

I call BS. I disconnected my battery for about a hald hour after having the alarm activated and it still worked. As matter of fact, the alarm system went off (meaning horn beeping, lights flashing) when I connected back to the battery. So, he's full of it (or just misinformed).

One last thing about the alarm. In my dealing with the dealer, I made the comment of saying "I just dropped over $40K on a truck and it doesn't even have an alarm?" Hell my old Tacoma came with one. The Prius I just borrowed had one. His response was we have $70K vehicles without alarms.....amazing. The new LandCrusier must have the same "issue"
The 2008 Land cruiser 5.7 liter comes with alarm's I wouldn't bother mentioning what you payed on your truck like the service guy really cares what any smart A?? customer has to say about price. I think Service rep know what these truck are worth it's not rocket science.
About Toyota lame 3200 based alarm I plan on ripping this pos out of my Tundraei aftermarket all the way. It's well Knowen This isn't the best system on the market i've seen the loop holes in this system and it's beyond outdated Technology it's old to say the least on the levels of refinement.

When I was buying my truck I declined the charge to have it activated and then when I paid extra to extend the warranty they threw in the activation! I hate dealing with car dealers!

No battery backup provided with Toyota seen this on a past post someone cut a hole in the hood of a Tundra dis connected the battery and stole it's factory Navigation system out . No remote within a 2 miles range warning your truck is getting broken into and No Gps for that madder
New features like engine starting for the 2007 Tundra is very likely a featured taken from the aftermarket yet there still is some major gap's they need to provide to make the Oem system worth it.

Ok, I went to the dealer today (Toyota of Dallas, since someone else here had luck with them). I asked them to enable it.
Well I go to test it.... aaand.. it looks like they seem to have enabled the key immobilizer, but not the alarm.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as it reads in the manual: Put the ignition on lock, remove the key, the icon should start BLINKING. Lock the doors, and the icon should become SOLID for 30 seconds or so, then start blinking again. Once it starts blinking again, the alarm is active, am I right?
Well mine only blinks and never changes after I hit lock. So I guess only the immobilizer is on.
I thought all V8s were supposed to have the immobilizer in the first place??

Your exactly right. I had my alarm activated today and mine works as you outlined and as the manual states. However, let me offer this to you and others. I printed out the pdf instructions, as instructed in this thread eariler, and took them to my Toyota dealership. When I came to pick up my truck today the tech told me that the pdf instructions I had printed was NOT APPLICABLE to my 2008 DC. He said that my 2008 model did not require the same instructions as on the pdf. I asked him what was so different and he told me that the programming procedure was different and if he had not known better and had attempted to follow the pdf instructions that I gave him, not only would the alarm system not work but other electrical system functions would be affected and would require an entire reprogramming of my computer. I asked him specifically what was different about the two procedures and he said it was too complicated to go in to. After I explained to him that I am an electrical engineer and give me a try, he said that he was forbidden by dealership rules to share the information with me. Anybody else heard this before? I got my alarm activated for FREE and I am grateful but unless somebody, hopefully one of the Master Technicians that come here, changes my mind, I call BS on this technician's explaination about different programming procedures.
