I guess it comes down to saving time and money by having the alarm pre-wired (for lack of better term) at the factory and they only activating it when the "alarm" option is ordered. When you do they then charge a couple hundred bucks. As you can see even the majority of the techs were unaware it was there, so either the communication system sucks on these money making schemes or (I think more likely) it just generally not passed on to the service and tech folks. Many of these trucks, if not most, are pre-wired for backup camera and sonar too.

tonylop33 - I see you live in the Bay area. What dealer activated your alarm and what was the cost? I live in the Central Valley but I come to the Bay area to see my kids and friends.

OK, so you don't need GBS, but do need keyless entry and immobilizer ?
1) By keyless entry do you mean the push buttons on the door?
2) Do all 5.7s have the immobilizer?

For this to work, you have to have the immobilizer (on all V8 engine Tundras) and the keyless entry system (remote lock/unlock using the key fob buttons)

Toyota does in fact have thing's pre wired depending on trim level and Options. I know on The Tundra from 03-06 The GSb was allready in place and adding the 3200 based alarm required the Microphone and relay alarm.I've done that mod and learned from The Ts mod god's being this is all plug and play remove a plug wire and alarm working was a simple fix. About the sonar and the back up camera I wouldn't be surprised that is pre wired too. I guess it's cheaper for Toyota is have this stuff ready and we figure out the add on's later

Cool. I have to take mine in on Monday or Tuesday for an oil change. I'll try to dig up that PDF file and take a copy with me.

I buddy of mine is a Lexus tech in San Jose. He did it after work (I brought beer). A co-worker with a Tundra had a friend at Capitol Toyota in San Jose do it for free.

Depending on when you are in the area, my buddy might be willing to do it for free.

I will be in Santa Clara tomorrow most of the day. PM me and I'll give you my cell number if he can do it. I'm also looking to get the VSC recalibrated to zero also. I'd be willing to pay.

According to the brochure, only the Limited have the standard factory alarm. The SR5 is optional.

The reality is that it is active on Limited models and not "activated" on most SR5s. If the immobilizer and keyless entry are there, then the alarm is probably there.

Dealer turned on alarm for my new 08 DC without batting an eye. Also turned off the seatbelt chimes on both the front seats, made the keyless entry unlock all doors with one push and turned off the auto locking once the truck is going over x mph.

Thanks!
