The link is no good. Can you post a copy? All the dealers I talk to think I'm crazy.
Thanks
Took mine in Monday, Service rep said it wouldn't work but got the techstream out and proceeded without questioning. 5 minutes later plus 30 sec wait it work like a charm. I asked how much and he said no charge so I gave him a 20 and thanked him. Hope he remembers me next time I want something. They really couldn't understand why it should work if Toyota charges 200 from the factory but were willing to try without any BS.. Chuck Hutton here in Memphis.

It's the dealers computer for editing the onboard computer... I knew a guy at the dealer and I told him what I wanted and they did it for free... I had the print out in hand to show them how to do it incase they said it couldn't be done....

When I had mine done I got the same response from my service manager. They were just sure it wouldn't work. He called his "best tech" up to see if he knew any way to do it and the guy took my truck back and hooked up the tech stream. He came back a few minutes later and tryed to show me where it said that my truck had no alarm based on my vin#. When I handed him the instructions I had printed out he asked me to go with him in to an office so he could read it. After looking at it he said "I never thought about going at it from that direction" He went back and 5 minutes later he came out in my truck and said "it works". The guy was cool and seemed to believe that I knew what I was talking about. Of course NO CHARGE! Be sure to print out this thread and take it with you when you go in.
And what ever you do, be sure they disable the passive arming. Huge mistake on my part.
kudos to Fayetteville Toyota - Fayetteville Arkansas.

I'll add my bit in here. There are two Toyota dealerships in my town. I took it to one, and they said no alarm. "We looked and you don't have the alarm". I said yes I do, but they wouldn't listen. They said that if I did have it, they would activate it for $40. This is the same dealer that would not lube my propeller shaft because they said I had no lube points.
Second dealer - I was there with my friend and I asked him how much to enable the alarm on my truck. Gave him the model, said I had keyless entry and immobilizer. He said "you don't have the alarm, we have to install it". I said "sure I do, you just have to enable it with the techstream". He said, "I do more accessories than anyone and that truck does not come with an alarm".
I then asked what oil he uses in the 5.7L engine, and he said "5W-30 semi synthetic" as recommended by Toyota. I sure get tired of this misinformation at the dealers.

Yeah, that's fine. I installed my GBS and hood pin switch. I went to my dealer and they wanted $100 to activate the alarm. It took a couple months before I got it turned on by a buddy.
It was a couple months after installation of the GBS till I finally got the alarm turned on.
and also i read the instruction manual for the gbs and on page 9 say to install a short pin. what exactly is that? a fuse? and was it hard to install the gbs and hood switch? and also how did yout buddy activated the alarm? with the software of toyota? thank you so much asianflava

I didn't install the shorting pin. I've heard both to install it and to not install it. I figured I'd leave it out and test it. If it didn't work, I'd put it in. The GBS is a little bit of a pain because it's hard to see where things go. The Hood Pin switch is easy to install.
My buddy works at a dealership, the biggest obsticle was the service writer. They have new owners and they have a strict policy about having personal vehicles in the service area. The service writer tried to give me the, "We legally can't disable the passenger's seatbelt chime." I said OK but we deactivated it anyway. I went back there with him and it took 5min.
Do not install the short pin. All it does is make your radio and other things go dead. My buddy is a Lexus and former Toyota tech. He said disregard that step and was right.

That is where you shut off your truck, get out and close the doors. 20 seconds later it will arm the alarm and if you walk up and open the door and grab your cell phone or something, close it, and walk away it will deploy the alarm. the alarm is set to deploy so many seconds after you open a door so you can have time to put your key in the ignition and crank it to turn the alarm off. The other setting of the passive alarm is to auto lock the doors and arm it's self. That will only make it easyer to lock your keys in the truck. It's a huge PITA. I can never remember that the alarm is going to go off and i'm half way back in the house when it goes off and makes me look like a Dumb a$$. Spare your self some grief and have that part turned off.

+1 - I can't tell you how many times the kids or the wife open the truck door when the truck is in the garage or we are camping and the alarm starts going nuts..... I'm trying to "train" myself into locking the doors every time I exit the vehicle - what a major PITA
