TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Alarm activation confirmed!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
For those of you who were wondering, if you have a V8 and have the key immobilizer, you can have the stock alarm activated instead of paying the ridiculous $200 for. After getting the run-around from my selling dealership, I went to another and had them activate the alarm and disable the passenger seat dinger/buzzer for $30 (it was $60 but I told them that was too high and they knocked it down). Just FYI for everyone that was still wondering. Sorry if there were other people who had confirmed this on the other thread (I couldn't find it).

What alarm, are you talking about the beeps you get when you press unlock? I have the remote start with the key fobs.
Nope, an actual alarm - so, if someone unlocks the doors from the inside of the truck (after having locked the doors with the key fob) the alarm goes off (sounds just like the panic).
Whoa, wtf! I got in, locked it with the fob and opened the door and it didn't go off! WTF, I thought it had an alarm this whole time. Does the truck come with one? It needs to be activated?

HAHA, this is exactly what happened to me. I thought all new vehicles with keyless entry had this very simple "alarm" activated. The Tundra does not. Toyota does let you pay $199 for it from the factory though. Or you can have your service department activate it. A lot of people have said that it can't be done, but if you have a V8 and keyless entry, it can be activated. The steps in the Sparks install for the GBS need to be followed and it can be activated. Since I had to end up going to a different dealership, they charged me, which blew, but I got the alarm activated and that annoying seat chime deactivated.

I just went out and checked mine. No alarm but a blinking light in my clock/mileage display. WTF.

I do have the 5.7 and keyless entry, so you're saying that I do have it, that its just not activated?
What steps, can I activate it myself?
Nope, you can't activate it yourself. It's a crock, for sure. Like I said, I paid $30 for their time, even though it took a whole 15 minutes for them to do it. I have had people tell me they had it done for free, though. I know a dealership isn't a charity, so I didn't mind paying a little, but I surely wasn't going to pay the $60 they told me...that's why I bargained

I just looked at the Tundra brochure from when I bought the truck. In Canada, the alarm is only activated on the Limited trucks. Mine is an SR5 DC. But the TRD package adds the alarm system. I haven't actually tested mine, but I will.
I did a bunch of research on this. Here is what I learned. If you have keyless entry and an engine immobilizer (standard on V8s), you have the alarm. It might not be activated if you did not have it listed on your window sticker, but it is there. Many techs and dealers don't even know it is there, but it is.
My buddy who is a Lexus tech activated mine with the Toyota Techstream scanner in a few minutes. He did not know it could be done until I convinced him to try. We then took a co-workers to his buddy who is a Toyota tech and activated his. His buddy did not know how to do it, but another tech there did. It does not have to have a Glass Break Sensor (GBS) or hood switch present.
If you can make the horn sound and lights flash by pushing the panic button on the remote, the alarm is there.
Some dealers will charge you to activate it, some will not, many will tell you it can't be done. Better yet, buy a tech a six-pack or slip then $20.
Here is the install PDF for the glass break sensor. On pages 10-17 it explains how to activate the alarm with the scanner. Those direction might help you convince the tech/service department that it can be done.
Good luck with the activation for those that don't have it active.

My 07 DC has the TRD package. The alarm sets several minutes after the doors are locked. I have a keyless entry but lock the door manually. After the alarm sounded just put the key in the ignition and turn the alarm went off. Dana

Don't know about the other models, but the LTDs definitely have an alarm as per pages 39-41 in the owner's manual. I just locked my truck with the remote (after rolling down the passenger side window), came in the house and read the owner's manual, went back out, reached in, opened the passenger's door by the inside handle and about got blasted out of the garage from the beeping horn. When all else fails, read the manual. If you want to test the system, it doesn't activate for thirty seconds after you've locked the doors.
