TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Dayum. Loose screw/bolt almost causes accident.", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Today I was driving Mrs. Torch home for lunch. Coming up to a traffic light I go to apply the brake and something was blocking my foot from the brake pedal. Luckily I pushed on whatever it was and got the truck so ease to a stop. The heating duct just above the driver's feet had fallen down and now was blocking both the brake pedal and the accelerater pedal. I was in the truck thinking WTF is that? Luckily I wasn't going fast or on a busy street. I eased into a parking lot and got out and found that a small screw/bolt holding the heat duct in place was loose and it had fallen off on one end. Everyone should go check your truck now and make sure that bolt is tight. If not, if that thing were to allow your heat duct to fall down on a crowded freeway at speed you or your family could be seriously injured or killed in the resulting crash by not being able to stop. The small bolt is located on the left side of heat duct. You can't miss it. The heat duct is just above where your feet are on the pedals.

Man thats pretty scary buddy, especially with the 8" of fresh snow we had on the roads today. Glad you and Mrs Torch didn't get hurt, will surely check mine before heading home in the morning.

Its worth checking. The Tundra drove through the 8 inches of snow like it was air today. I was impressed with how well the 4X4 goes through the deep snow.

Would it help to put some temporary (or permanent) Loktite on the bolt for a little insurance?

Anything you can do to prevent this. Tomorrow when it is light outside I am going to see about a locking nut from my airplane mechanic to put on it. Trust me, you don't want this to happen.

Thats good work man. Cause this could be a safety hazard as you said. Wonder if it will result in a recall? This could be a huge liability for Toyota now that they are aware of it and if someone gets hurt.......

These truck's handle snow well We had snow In Atlanta Yesterday I was surprised to see it
About the air duct's coming out I find that pretty odd In the former design it has a one peice design with a ridge preventing this from happening. I wonder what design change they did on the 2007 I'll have to check this out for the head's up i'll tell my friends about that issue.
