TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Add Daytime Running Lights", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Anyone here ever add Daytime Running Lights to a 07/08 Tundra?
I need to add it. Canadian Tire up here says they will do it for less than $200 but the guy didnt even ask what type of vehicle I have. He said the price is the same for any vehilce. That concerned me a bit.
OR you can just leave the light switch to ON. The Tundra automatically turns them off about 35 seconds after you lock it. I leave my switch on all the time and once I shut the door then lock it, about half a minute later the lights go off by themselves. Ever notice how there is no chime when you turn the truck off and leave the light switch on? Try for yourself Free DRL baby. Free.

In addition, I have discovered that if I "double" lock the truck with the remote the lights go off instantly. By the way, the lights don't turn off automatically on my SR5 with the cargo light switch in the off position.

Abutterworth, feel free to PM me if you need any info. I was a little tentative doing it at first, but once I got at it, its a breeze. As I advised in the other thread, order your DRL flasher relay from a US parts company, its less than half price.
For those of you in TX etc, DRL's are law in Canada, we HAVE to add them to the trucks we have bought in the US.

I too wondered why no dinging when I left the lights on and ign.off. So I pulled out my handy dandy catalog... um...I mean the owner's manual, (boy is that owner's manual getting bigger & bigger ), and there it was. I think that this is a great feature to have and I too leave my lights on all the time. Free driving lights are the best!
Ok it took me about 30 min I did it in minus 8 weather (C of course) I needed to get DRL running to pass my inspection at Canadian tire I searched many blogs and talked to many Mechanics but relied on simple electronic theory in tyhe end.
Heres how.
Open up your steering column and locate the plug on the bottom of your turn signal switch. Unplug it. you can use a DMM to locate which two terminals that open and close for your head lamps. For mine it was the terminals one and ...I think 7 one from last on the far right. In any event white and White with black stripe I placed a jumper on the plug side and made sure it all work turn signals etc. i am realying on the lamp time out function to shut them off or use my key faub. After my inspection I can pull off the jumper and go back to stalk.
Has anyone ever gotten a ticket for not having DRL? Or is it one of those 24 to get it things?
Dude I'd be beyond surprised if they bother you with the ticket for no DRL. Maybe if you got a turban on your head and they want to hassle you for some other reason. . .
On the other hand, DRL is helpful, makes you more visible, reduces the chance of some dipsh!t pulling out in front of you 'cause they didn't take the time to look. Me, I'd keep it going. Or shell out the extra $$ and have the dealer do it right. The OEM DRL is the orange turn signals, just "on" all the time, and looks good, very distinctive for this truck, with good long distance visibility.
Either way, good luck.

Man, this info would have saved me $200 about 245 hours ago. Just got the dealer to install mine for my Canadian Tire inspection.
Oh well...The part was $80 (some kind of wire-harness) and then the labour....
After they finished it was my hi-beams that they ran the DRL to. I thought it would be the amber turn signals like I've seen most factory-set Canadian Tundras having...

Just read TundraBay's post. Anyone else get the hi-beam DRL? Or does everyone else have the amber turn signals (park lights) as their DRL? Looks like I might have gotten the aftermarket DRL...or the dealer MESSED up.
