This is a discussion thread titled "windshield pitting, how is your State", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I hat when I am going down the road, then bam I get another pit in my windshield, from the car in font of me. here in Colorado it;s a normal occurrence when driving out here. sand, gravel. I guess I just have to suck it up and take the hits, it drives me crazy, knowing how expensive these windshields are.
I tried to get one repaired, but you have to have a crack, not a pit in the windshield for them to repair it.

I feel your pain exc200. I was driving up to Copper the other day and got another pit on my passenger side. I am dreading the fact that I will probably have to replace my windshield after next winter. I got my first one driving from Oregon over to Denver last summer and it drives me nuts.
If you find someone around town that will seal pits please let me know.
Ryan

I deftly will, I been look for the guys the do chip repairs, cracks, that are some time in strip mall, mall parking lots. I see them all the time in the summer, up in the Boulder county area. must not be the season for repair, it windshield damage season.

I know there is a carwash on Colorado and Mississippi in Denver that does windshield repair but I don't know if they do pit repair. I will ask next time I am around there.

Oregon is one of the worst states concerning rock damage to windshields. I 5 is one of the worst freeways due to how the road surface is made. The semis that drive around spew all the debris on the shoulders out into traffic, not to mention how much crap those truck tire treads actually hold. Out here we replace our windshields once a year. Back east I used to have a windshield for the life of the car. If you drive on I 5 you will surely get clobbered by a rock every 3 miles of driving. I've developed a driving tactic to minimize this at the very least. One thing for sure, never follow a semi closer than 100ft.

alot of insurance companies will get them fixed without a deductable ,they now feel it is cheaper to maintaian a windsheild than replace it, i would start by calling them

NM sucks but what else is new, i am fixin to replace my 2nd windshield as soon as winter is over! Even when replaced it seems we have a sandblast scenario going on down here. Pits everywhere and hard to see when going into sunlight during certain times of day!! if ya live here get good glass coverage!
Yup, CO sucks *** for winter road conditions. Why can't they use salt instead of gravel?? My last car windshield didn't even last one winter here, it had two huge cracks and got replaced. I've been lucky with the truck so far.

It's the same in central and northern Nevada. They put sand and salt down all winter long. I know someone that use to every couple of years take a spring-loaded center punch to his windshield on a really cold morning at the end of winter, and then just tell insurance a rock hit it and have them install a new one. I couldn't do that, just not my style.
I had a crack in my Wrangler's windshield for a good year, finally got it replaced at the end of last winter. That windshield had been in there for years and was real pitted and hard to see through with the sun at the right angle. Just a week after I had the new windshield put in a car in front of me pitched up a rock and put a crack top to bottom in it. Luckily it's smack dab in the middle. Oh well, at least it's clear to see through.
