TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Reverse camera", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I know there are several threads on this topic, but I havent been able to find an answer to this particular question. I have been looking at threads for two days now...
Has anybody figured out where the wires for the camera go up to the overhead consol? I would like to tap into these wires to attach to my aftermarket radio and I would perfer to not tap into them in the overhead compartment. The wires have to go up a post or something and if I could splice in farther down the line that would be great. Anybody know where I could find the wire and what color it is???
I hope this hasnt been reviewed in previous threads as I don't want to waste anyone's time. If so, could you please put a link on here?
Thanks....
When you remove the console in the double cab, there's a white plastic plug with 6 or 8 wires going into it, and it's attached to the roof at the front left of the roof. The light gray wire on the corner is the ignition switched 12 V wire. I used it to wire my radar detector into it as well as the back up camera.
It looks like the harness to the overhead console runs up the driver side post. Here is a routing PDF see around pages 19~21. It doesn't show wire detail, just harness location.
It was something I downloaded from the knowledge base section before it was changed around. There was a complete electrical manual posted at that time. I recently looked for, but didn't see much for 07 Tundra info anymore.
The model with Nav displays the camera image on the main console (where your stereo is). So I think a feed from the backup camera is also pre-wired to behind your stereo - no need to run a cable from the overhead console.
Attached are two manuals - one for the stereo with a built-in amp, and one for the separate amp.
I hope this helps.

You all are great. So much information out there. Thanks for the info. From what I see, there is a blue, white, black and red in the K7. White is labeled ground, but what of the others. I don't read these schematics often... or ever. Which would be the video feed?
CGND = Camera Supply Ground
CV+ = Camera Video Signal
CV- = Camera Video Signal Ground
CA+ = Camera Positive Supply
This is info read elsewhere, but I think it's accurate. Maybe someone can verify.
I'm not sure about the voltage requirements for the camera. Some searches should help there. Sounds like a Radio Shack thing. An adjustable voltage regulator or something. You set the voltage with a couple resistors. There maybe better or easier options, just an idea.
So I should grab the V+ wire and attach it to a standard rca video plug? Where would the voltage regulator go? I am going to install an Alpine 205 next month and I purchased a stock Toyota backup camera. I want to run the camera directly to the Alpine. The Alpine only has one input for the camera. I assume it is the video in. So that should be the V+ wire??? Has anybody done this exact setup.
