TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "How many have MODS + Factory Warranty", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I was wondering how many of you have done NON-TRD/toyota Mods done to your truck while it is still under warranty. Have any of you had trouble with the dealer service department regarding warranty work? I have decided that I am going to do the TRD intake, but I am leaning toward the Corsa Sport Exhaust (Cat-Back). My Dad helped me get the money together to pay cash for the truck and I am slowly paying him back, so I don't want to piss the warranty away in case something happens and I can't afford to fix it. I have heard several times "it only voids the warranty if the dealer says that the aftermarket part caused the failure/issue" but are dealers easily swayed into that frame of thought... (ie. your engine is running rough, turns out that you have an injector go bad... you have an aftermarket exhaust and they say that it could have changed the airfuel ratio enough to cause the computer to make excessive fuel increases and make the injector go bad). I know thats BS but CAN they pull that on me? Thanks!
Josh

NO. Some cars even have BORLA systems as the OEM exhaust. All of our street Cat-Backs™, Rear Sections and Mufflers are 50-state emissions legal. In fact, it is illegal for a dealer to deny you the OE warranty because you have changed the exhaust system.
If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact EPA at (202) 260-2080 or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. If federal warranty protection is denied, contact the FTC at (202) 326-3128 or Federal Trade Commission - Home. For additional information, check out the following links:

Then under that they have the Magnusson Moss Act pasted on the site. I honestly DOUBT you'll see a problem at all during the warranty period, unless you got like 100K miles one. The air intake might be a different story as I've already heard of one going bazerk on the site.
I fully intend to do the TRD intake as that will be more sensitive to warranty work than the exhaust due to the MAF sensor going back from filter oil and other things of that nature. The exhaust does not seem to be as big of an issue to me. Guess Ill call today to be sure. Corsa is my alltimore goal... Might call them as well!

My dealer replaced a leaking front shock under warranty no problem, but later gave me grief on a back shock. Had the same lift on the truck both times, so it just depends on who you talk to.
I ended up putting different shocks on the back that will hopefully eliminate what remains of my bed bounce.

Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43."
Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper.
After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/18 or 35x12.50/18.
Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Foam pad above spare to help with bed bounce.
Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks and foam pad above spare. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now.
Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed.
Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

I have yet to experience bed bounce... I don't think at least...
