This is a discussion thread titled "Bad reception with OEM sirus", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Anyone have bad reception with the OEM bought through the Toyota dealer w/Sirus controlled by the Nav unit?
Every since I installed this unit it constantly has breaks where there is no signal. I installed it thru the 3rd brake light and ran the wires like everyone else along the side doors inside the rubber. I installed my receiver under my console on top of the carpet. I also snugged it down with some wire ties so it doesn't bounce around.
Could it be possible that under the console may have interference with the receiver?
I called Sirus and they can't figure it out. They even gave me another signal shot. I'm thinking about installing a new antenna...the antenna I got with the unit is huge. The newer antennas are much smaller and maybe stronger.
Any ideas would help.
Is it cutting out when there is minor blockage or are you getting no signal at all? It's possible you have a bad connection. Sirius signal is terrible to begin with. It will go out at the drop of a hat. I can go under an overpass that's 4 lanes wide doing 80mph and I will lose signal sometimes for a few seconds. Hopefully, their signal will get better if they ever merge. Good luck with your problem.
These have the standard connectors and I think one has an adapter to do straight and 90degree angle. Hope it helps....I only loose signal in high tension wire clusters in 2 spots in town or in deep parking garages and tunnels. Never under overpasses or in general driving.

My Ex has sirus in her Lexus suv that she bought from best buy that never cuts out. She has the after market (Not direct factory hook up)
for whats it worth I was having the same exact issue, the tipoff for me was that I saw on the screen that it wasnt a loss of signal, rather a loss of antenna. I have the factory Sirius unit, but reused the small round magnet antenna from my old sirius Sportster through the 3rd brake light. The connection at the radio was actually not fitting real tightly. Turns out it just wasnt seating well, i secured it with some velcro straps and its fine since.
FY...I did a Sirius set-up in the wifes Lexus and her signal is nothing short of amazing...She gets signal in the garage and there was no terrestrial signal. The new antennas are very improved!!! I would get a new antenna!!!

Ok, since I posted this message I bought a new antenna from Radio Shack and installed it. I drove it all around town where I was having problems and not one time did I loose my signal. I'm very happy and will take my old school lookin antenna back to the dealer and try to get my money back. If anyone else has an OEM Sirus from Toyota, for the Nav unit, and received a antenna 3"L x 3 1/2W" x 1"H (square lookin), take it back and buy the little small low profile antenna from your local electronics store. You'll be glad you did.
I reciently upgraded one of my plug and play Sirius radios and had the same problem. Right out of the box the radio kept loosing the antenna.
I pluged in the old antenna I had kicking around and problem solved.
Seems that there are some quality issues with some Sirius antennas.
