TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "275/70/R18 Tire Question", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I installed the Cooper ATS 275/70/18 and a leveling kit from customtoyz which is a 2.25" kit. The tires only rub slightly on the skip plate in a hard turn. I trimmed the skid plate and good as new. The cooper is a 33.2" tire I looked at the BF & the Nitto I liked the tread pattern better for my use and it comes with a warranty for an ATR 50,000 mile. It's a 10 ply but I'm running about 50-55 lbs and they ride great and they got real good reviews.
Just for info, I put BFG AT/KOs, 305/65/18 on my stock wheels last week, no problems except the already mentioned trim on the skid plate. Look and ride great. Here's some pics.
TundraNC...did you install a leveling kit as well? If so, which kit did you go with. I'd like to purchase the BFG AT's in the 305/65/18 size and need to figure out whether or not I need the leveling kit. Great looking truck!
Thanks, Tex, I have the Tough Country kit, you can just see the spacer at the top of the front springs in the 2nd pic, but you won't need any lift for the 305 tires, just the minor trim on the skid plate.

Those running boards are the best I've seen for a stylish look. I also like the bed bars but none of that would make sense on my performance 2WD Tundra.

just do yourself a favor and get a leveling kit man..why put on bigger tires without one. Will look better but with the kit it will be 200000 times better

No lift. No rubbing. 275/70-18. The last truck I lifted 2" in front for tires cost me 1.5 mpg. I drive about 90 miles/day to & from work so every little bit counts. Also, since I removed the stock running boards, my wife & kids have enough trouble getting in at this height. I do plan to install AMP-research steps. When this is done, I may raise the front a little.

First Q: The tires probably did hurt the mileage some. (I did correct the speedo) But from what I know about aerodynamics, the less air under the better. As with almost all cars/trucks, the bottom is not smooth like the top. So the higher you raise it, the more air underneath, the worse the mileage.
Second Q: I have noticed a little acceleration drop. Can't accurately figure the mileage b/c speedo has not been corrected. Waiting on a power programmer to come out that does more than just correct speedo.
The stock tires are so light weight. I probably added 80 lbs of rotating mass.

I am 5 inches taller than stock and still get 17 city from 5.7 4x4, so take everything with a grain of salt.

Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43."
Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper.
After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/18 or 35x12.50/18.
Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Foam pad above spare to help with bed bounce.
Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks and foam pad above spare. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now.
Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed.
Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.
