This is a discussion thread titled "Sonar Malfunction when Raining", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I know a few people here have reported the same problem....one (or more) of the sonars falsely emit the "obstacle warning" during or after a hard rain.
Do we know what the fix is???
It rained fairly hard here yesterday and mine didn't start to beep.
I'm not sure how you would 'fix' it if it beeped when it rained so hard it set it off. After all, a vast quantity of water is an obstacle - the sonar doesn't know if its water or a solid object.
If its raining hard then just hit the 'sonar' button and turn it off.

Mine did this one time during and rain and has not done it since. It had to be about four or five months ago and I just let them dry out.

The sensors are acting just like they should in that they're sensing an object that's close. It just happens to be that the object in your case is heavy rain or snow/ice stuck on the sensor. There's nothing wrong with them. The "fix" is to shut them off when needed.
No, it is malfunctioning. It is always the same sensor (Rear Passenger only). I can wipe it off to no avail. It will still chime. Yes turning it off stops the alarm, but that is not a fix.
thanks though

I got a crazy idea...take it to the dealer.

That sonar may be a hair more sensitive, but nothing wrong. If you believe there is, do like he said above.

Or maybe water is getting in, shorting out something. Is it slow beep --- beep ---- beep, or fast or one long beeeeeeeeeeeeeep. If it doesn't change with different amounts of rain, or if it's an all or nothing you may have a bad sensor or a leak in it.
Take it back. . . you didn't pay $500 for something you have to remember to turn off and on all the time. . .

I am having a similar problem and will take it to the dealer the next time I am in the city. My rear sensors sound continuously after every time I wash the truck. Given it is -20C I have checked for snow or ice on the face of the sensor but they are perfectly clean. I do wash the underside and believe water is getting into the connections or sensor and shorting them out. My problem does eventually go away after a couple warmer days or a day in a heated garage, but I agree this is BS. Since others are having issues in the rain it likely is a leaking connection, I just hope the dealer will step up and agree because of coarse there won't be a problem when it is sitting in their shop (but I will make sure to hose them down good before taking it in).
I have had problems with mine so I usually just leave it off...Can't stand another beep when I start the thing too. Plus I thought sonar was only supposed to work on under water sea animals and submarines...??

Mine was wet from rain last night and it didn't emit a single beep until I was only inches from the garage door, which is quite different from its usual behaviour.
