TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "updates for 2009?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I had an F 150 99 and traded and I bought CREWMAX.
I liked paint on my 99 better and the plastics in interior MORE durable and more scratch resistant then TUNDRA. Engine was 4.6 and a bit underpowered. Took me to 200, 000 miles without engine or trany problems. Changed a couple of sensors. I did brakes every 70-80,000 miles because didn't use soft pads.
My tundra, YES I love it but durability. IN some things yes and in other things, they designed it to be NO. Examples: paint, brake pads, interior plastics, tailgate, thin steel to get great gas mileage for the size of truck. I scratch my head and ask TOYOTA, why not a home run with this truck instead of being stuck at second base??
IT is frustrating to say the least, because you don't find out QUALITY OR DURABILITY ISSUES until after buying truck.

after putting the crewmax in my garage, the last thing I would want is a 6.5 bed, its a tight enough squeeze for a 5.5 foot bed....for those in rural areas with a more moderate climate, go for it...but for a city dweller whose city is currently around -25C or -20F forget the extra foot.......
You guys must have small garages. I had an '01 F250 Super Duty crew cab short bed (which was actually 6'' 10" inside the box) and it would fit in my garage. Granted it was tight but it fit.
Thanks for the info. I guess it makes sense that 2010 will be the year any updates come since that's when the hybrid and diesel models are coming out I hear. Speaking of superchargers, what I'd really like to see is a sport version just like their red supercharged RCSB shown at the last SEMA

I had a '99 F-150 w th the 5.4L and had more problems in it's lightly used 45K miles than my old air-cooled VW's. Launching the spark plug was the last straw-a poorly engineered head. The brakes seemed more an afterthought than anything else. I can go on. The plastic didn't seem any better to me. In fact it scratched easily and seemed to permanately absorb stains too easily. Paint scratched too.I don't miss it at all and never would consider another Ford. Especially after seeing 4 late model Super Duty's being towed from the highways around here this summer.
I am puzzled that they still haven't seemd to address the dash rattle at the factory yet/

It might make the truck look good to some but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
If Toyota would put a 6.5' bed on the Crewmax it could be used like a truck to load an ATV in the back and to be able to close the tailgate or actually carry something in the bed.
Now it's an SUV with a small funny looking box on the back.
While they're at it they should build a new tailgate for people like me who want to use the truck like a truck.
I have been anticipating that Toyota will build the CrewMax with a 6 or 6.5 inch bed. I was told by Toyota Sales several months ago that Toyota would build it late last summer. Summer has come and gone therefore I assumed it would become available in 2008. Recently Toyota unveiled the Heavy Duty CrewMax Diseal Dually. Huge Truck. That was built with a 6.5 inch bed. Obviously Toyota plans to build one, but when.
I ordered a CrewMax last year, but decided to wait for the CrewMax with the 6.5 inche bed.
Does anyone have any updated information as to when Toyota plans to build it? Many truck lovers plan to purchase one.
A Ford F150? Buy it if you think its better. I traded my 2001 F150 SuperCrew for my Tundra. No comparison in quality and from what I can see Ford has not changed in this regard. I looked at Super Dutys when shopping for a new truck. Its an all new model.
I have not had any of the problems with my truck that people have listed on this forum.
Hell no!!!! CM is already big enough which takes away alll the sexy looks of it. If you want beauty, go for DC, IT's sexy it's well proportioned especially with the 6.5 bed. It's like a super models truck. I don't know why they built that CM with a short bed, it looks wierd and the gas cap is almost next to the rear door looks wierd, they don't look right to me. Anyway, they're both toyota so it's all good!!!!
Why not a 8ft bed like what Chevy put out in their 1/2 tons.
That would be SWEET!!!
I doubt chevy has the same size cab as a crew max with the 8' bed. As it is my double cab with the 8' bed is pretty long....
How about an actual 3/4 ton truck already and dont sell it to those that have never owned trucks.....this way i dont have to read about how people think the tundra has a horrible ride.
