TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "updates for 2009?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
i dont see why not....i thought you were looking for a 8' bed.
The only other thing i can see is sales, most people wanting a bigger cab dont care about the bed size. Also bigger cab, bigger bed you will need to up the cargo capacity, look at the dodge mega cabs. The 1500 mega cab is based off a 3/4 ton platform, yet it barely has as much cargo cap as a regular 1500 quad cab.
Besides i really need the 3/4 ton truck more than you need that extra foot of bed space....lol
I think the CM looks weird the way it is now. It needs a longer bed to balance it out.
I could put a CM with a 6.5' bed in my garage and still have 5 ' left over.
This Tundra isn't really that great looking to begin with. It looks like it needs to go on a diet and shed some major pounds.
Hopefully the CM with a 6.5' bed is in the works.
what? the tundra looks amazing...and as for shedding pounds it looks more like its on steroids to me...schwarzenegger
I think the CrewMax looks wierd with a 5.5 bed. Nice looking truck, but wierd with the short bed. Other manufactures build trucks with adequate size in the cabin and with longer beds. I imagined Toyota would build it.
I'm still in the market for one, but only with a longer bed.

Not all, though...remember the Dodge MegaCab is very similar...huge interior with shorter bed. I don't think there is another 4 door cab bigger then the crew max (and Mega Cab), is there? If so, correct me.
If Toyota would put a 6.5 foot bed on a crew max, it would definitely be the biggest truck on the road!

Not quite. It would still be 8" shorter wheelbase than a Ford Super Duty Crew Cab long bed and 16" shorter overall. Trust me, I have one and it's huge.

The Lexus engine that the 5.7 was paterned after had direct port injection which has increased gas mileage and power(20hp) on some engines. will it be on the 2009 or 2010? the new Sequioa was suposed to have a gas mileage system less complicated than cylinder shut off but i have not seen it yet. i am one that will wail for the 2009 or 2010 tundra if it has some good up grades. keep us all up dated on what is heard for the new models.
First, my '05 D-cab wouldn't fit in my garage (executive ranch w/ garage under the living room - only 80.5" ceiling). So I'm not concerned about wheelbase or bumper-to-bumper dims, just height. Hell I probably couldn't fit a new Taco in my garage (damned house was built in the '60's when even 4x4's were short - and rare). But everyone saying that the new CM and D-cabs are "so long", my '05 is 1" longer than either the D-cab w/ 6.5' bed or CM.
I wouldn't bank on the CM w/ 6.5' bed until their engine options change (or mileage improves). CAFE standards is why they've held off the CM w/ longer bed options. Increased vehicle lenght and weight will impact GVWR and mileage...reducing their compliance w/ CAFE (and the increasing stinginess).
By the way, had to pull the reigns back on my new CrewMax. Banking on a late spring or early summer deal if things go well (just changed jobs, finances, etc.). Damned it!!!!
My truck lives in the driveway too. I have to pull through or back in, at most stores, to park as it is now. Overall length is no biggie to me. This truck will not fit in a standard 20x20 garage.
Before jumping on the Hino diesel, folks may want to look at how much power is making it to the wheels. Going from a 350 CID gas V8 to a diesel V8 is a huge difference. Diesel trucks are not known for their MPG's. Diesel fuel is 20-30 cents a gallon more than 87 octane. Will it pull? Oh yeah! Will it be worth it? Probably not.

I would figure that there will be direct injection engine sooner or later in the tundra. I bet it's the 4.7 though. I seem to remember hearing when the new Tundra was coming out that there was going to be a revamped 4.7. DI engines on outboards for boats are much more efficient than their efi cousins but you pay a very heft premium to get into one.
Back in Aug. 2007 I heard that CATERPILLAR and Toyota signed an agreement for 2010..... a CAT diesel motor option!!!!! for the 3/4 - 1 ton Tundras!!!!!

I also think the 4.7 will get revamped to be on par with the 5.7 technology such as dual vvt-i, aluminum block and such. I think lexus already have DI motors, I could be wrong, it's just a matter of time. Just doesn't make sense having a smaller motor that only gets the same mpg as the larger motor.

If I remember correctly, the 5.7 is based upon the same architecture as the 4.6 in the LS 460 which is a direct injection motor. How about you give us the 4.6 with some changes to make it more truck specific and put it in front of the 6 speed? Maybe we could see a little better mileage for those of us who don't need all the power of the 5.7 but still want/need a 1/2 ton truck.
I have owned a 2005 (leased for 3 years) and now I'm looking for another truck. I don't like the CM because of the long cad / short box combo. I'm not a fan of the DC because I think the rear of the cab looks odd and they don't have the roll down rear window.
I do photoshop so I thought I'd just make my own perfect tundra.
I shortend the cab of the CM just a bit then added the 6.5ft bed off of a DC. I know it's not real, but I dream of this truck.
I thought that I wanted the CM with 6.5 bed but I made the plunge with the DC. I did a lot of sitting and getting in/out of both. Initially, I held out in 2007 and then well into 2008 waiting for the CM + 6.5 bed. Then the incentives happened and revisited my decision. Got the whole family involved. Tried out the DC and CM again.
I have 2 boys still in car seats (1 big seat, 1 booster) that ride in the back. No problem. I have buddies and parents that ride in the back. No problem.
Very happy with my decision. I don't need the added size OR weight of the CM for my typical use.
BTW: the rear windows go down in the DC - only downside is that they are a bit narrow for viewing while riding in the back.
