TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "updates for 2009?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
This is the truck I would buy! (inspite of the crappy interior). Just add a turbo diesel.
QUOTE=daddykirbs;1105609]I have owned a 2005 (leased for 3 years) and now I'm looking for another truck. I don't like the CM because of the long cad / short box combo. I'm not a fan of the DC because I think the rear of the cab looks odd and they don't have the roll down rear window.
I do photoshop so I thought I'd just make my own perfect tundra.
I shortend the cab of the CM just a bit then added the 6.5ft bed off of a DC. I know it's not real, but I dream of this truck.

"BTW: the rear windows go down in the DC - only downside is that they are a bit narrow for viewing while riding in the back."
The rear window rolls down in the DC like in the CM?? By all my research, which includes going to the dealership and talking with them... says that the DC rear window does not have the option to roll down.
I'm talking about the entire rear window that rolls down like a side window. Not just the center portion that slides open.

Ah. The REAR window. I immediately responded with the comment about the rear door windows. You are right - you are limited to the solid or center sliding window on the DC. I agree, the power rear window would be very nice. The slider is basically useless - I never crawl back there to open/close it.
No moonroof on the DC either - but I have a moonroof on my 2 other cars and RARELY use it.

I think Dodge has already mastered a heavy duty version of just what you're talking about...they coined it "MegaCab" and it isn't available on the 1500...Lots of people have mentioned that they'd like a CrewMax with a 6.5. Maybe Toyota will hear their desires and make one. Although with the decline in the truck market and suspension of production at some plants for 90 days...maybe they won't.
Some pretty sweet Photoshop skills right there though! Does the rear window of the CrewMax slant up like that as well? I thought that was only a Double Cab thing. I could be wrong though...I only drove a CrewMax...I own a Double Cab

Loaded up with almost all Toyota had to offer, plus a few things they didn't offer...
Anyone heard if there are any updates / fixes / refreshes coming for the 2009 model? Engine updates, tailagate or bed bounce/vibration fix, etc.
maybe they'll bump the output of the 5.7L to 400bhp?
I'm thinking of waiting for the TRD lowering kit to be released first before buying.. but if I hear of updates coming down the line, I might just wait a bit more until the fall-winter this year for the 09 models
we still havet got all the power out of what we have now with full throttle only at 82% just think how much quicker it would be to bump that up with a tuner
I don't think you will ever see a crewmax with a 6 1/2 ft box, wouldn't this be a frame change.
Negative my friend, at least I don't think so. Just combine average ingrediants that Toyota sould find in the parts bin. Add one part; double cab longbed frame, combine with crewmax body and 6.5ft bed.
I do agree that the DCLB is a very looong truck. But when people request options like this in a very competetive truck segment, one would think that Toyota would deliver.
Subject: Toyota Tundra Options
Discussion Thread Response (Jay Spencer)01/18/2008 12:47 PMMr. Doyle,
Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
We thank you for your interest in the Toyota Tundra and apologize that the engine and bed options currently available do not meet your needs. Toyota is very aware of the interest in a diesel engine option for the Tundra and this past week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Katsuaki Watanabe, president of Toyota Motor Corporation confirmed that a new clean diesel V8 engine will be offered in both the Tundra and Sequoia in the near future. While no mention was made of an additional bed option for the Crew Max, we are aware of consumer interest in this type of vehicle and it is currently being reviewed. We thank you for your enthusiasm about our products and hope that you will continue to consider Toyota for your driving needs.
I sent a similiar letter to Toyota USA earlier this year and received a likely response that stated the same things.
Over the course of this year, I have also make contact with several dealers within the Southeast region. All of whom say the Crewmax with the 6'5 is in the works and would be available soon. However, market conditions lead me to believe the chances of it coming out this year are very remote.
Toyota shut down production of the 08's in early August. Produciton of the 2009 does not begin until November. Inquiring minds like myself would like to know if the 2009 CrewMax will be build with a longer bed. Some say it will, while others say, not so.
That looks really nice, but I bet the downside would be the reduced payload capacity unless they came out with a 3/4 ton. Trucks with less than 6.5' beds always look weird to me, esp the crewmax. Proportions are all off.

they had the cab proportions right on the 04-06 DC IMO. All it needed was a stouter/ beefier drivetrain and brakes- they'll swing back to those proportions eventually - watch. Longer bed? who the hello knows.
