Grill Mod (Hyperblack look) ...

Well I got started this weekend but not finished yet since I still waiting on my new billet grill parts to get here to install but I took my spare Toyota emblem off the stock grill and gave it a Hyperblack (black chrome) paint look as a prep. I just thought I share a teaser pic of it till I get the rest completed with more pics to share.
This is a picture with 2 coats on and took a quick pic of it with the 5.7 emblem to give you a idea of what it looks like from stock chrome but its still hard to tell a lot of difference yet, it looks alot better in person really. So you will all have to wait till I am all done with the project to get a better look. I got to admit it came out alot better than I thought it would at first. as you can guess I am trying to get away from all the chrome on my truck.

I did my headlight mod dark flat grey with my silver truck, Looks really good.... Was thinking of doing it again with the hyperblack..... I like the black chrome look over the regular chrome look..

Where did you find the paint ? Is it spray on ? What brand ?

I'm a fan of the Hyperblack look too. I much prefer it to chrome.

Where did you get the paint to do this? The only emblem I see myself wanting to save on the truck, is that Toyota emblem on the grille, and even then, I would prefer it to be hyperblack rather than chrome. Please share your secrets.

Okay lets see if I can answer a few questions real quick before I actually complete my project. First yes this is a spray paint application that other should be able to duplicate if they wanted for way under $10.00. Whats is hyperblack, I think the best way to describe the paint color is its a black chrome look but the color kinda changes depending on amount of light and angle of the light hits the part. Yeah the pictures are pretty crappy for now it does more or less look chrome still, just hard to see the difference since its not installed yet. I will probably remove the Tundra emblem in the future and apply the same treatment as this and re-apply emblems.
I post more information on the products and process I used after I get my billet grill in and modified that too. Once its all installed I will post up more pics and information. So please just hold on a little longer if your interested in this process. I hate to post up more till I know it gives me the look I am going for. It looks like there not to much interest in this look anyhows.

Below I took another shot this morning after the clear coat dried overnight, this step can probably be skipped, I just wanted to give it a little more durability long term. As you can see this looks a little different than pictures from yesterday due to different lighting.

Well quick update UPS screwed up no billet grill this week as expected.
I have also decided to abandon this idea after holding the emblem up to the truck it just doesnt give it the look I was going for so I have since stripped the paint off the emblem for now, may end up just going with a matte black color once I get the grill installed and look at it again. As for the ones that want to pursue this option, here is some information to help you along the way.
The paint I got was from the local hobby shop made by Testors and the number if 1634 (Transparent Black Window Tint). Its normaly used on model cars to give the clear parts a tinted look. With it being a transparent color it lets the stock chrome bleed through the black (the hyperblack look). Thus more coats the darker it gets each time. I say stick with 2-3 coats but you have to see what looks good to you as you apply each coat.

So if anyone else takes this tasks on let us know how it all works out for you when you get done.
