Just opened my new Truck Trend magazine. Great article on the Truck of the Year. They compared the Silverado 2500 &3500, &-Ford F250 & F450 w/ the 5.7 Tundra (and the 4.7). The Chevy 2500 &Ford F250 & The tundra all towed 7500 lbs. for comparison. The 5.7 Tundra SMOKED them 0-60,1/4 mile,45-65, and 60-0. No mention of Silverado 1500 or Ford F150? They also said " the F150,Ram,and Silverado guys had better get out of the rain". Go to New & Used Trucks, SUVs, & Reviews at the Pickup & SUV Authority - Truck Trend Magazine tom read more.
Yeah, I get Truck Trend Magazine and was very impressed with how the Tundra performed. Not exactly apples to apples due to the Tundra being the only 1/2 ton. I was wondering why they did not test 1/2 ton to 1/2 ton from the big three. I know that usually 1/2 tons will out perform the 3/4 and 1 tons due to weight, drivetrain drag and gearing. The closest truck to the Tundra was the Chevy 2500 Duramax and it was still one second slower 0 to 60 and 3 seconds slower 0 to 60 towing 7,500lbs.
They also showed pics and specs of the all new Ford F150 and Dodge Ram. Wow! The new F150 is UGLY!!! Fords optional engine 5.4 comes with 310hp/365tq. WTF!!! Thats the least number of ponies of the big three, Toyota and Nissan. I don't see how Ford is going to sell F150s with those looks and specs. Pitifull!
The only Truck IMO that will give the Tundra a run is the all new Dodge with 380HP/404TQ. Execs of Dodge stated that they will not enter the towing wars with the other manufactures and leave that to the HD version of the Ram.
I recommend you all get the magazine as there are many Toyota articles. They have the all new Sequoia, there are snippet articles on the hybrid Toyota Truck, Tundra dually, FJ Cruiser convertible, TLC Icon Pickup, and a cool article on the old Toyota T100. Must have for Toyota enthusiast.

LOL. I was pretty disappointed myself to see the new F150 stuffed with only a reprogrammed ECU (Something about intake swirling fuel whatever) for 10 more HP.
The new Dodge is tits. I CAN'T wait to see a 3/4-ton 1-ton version. Can you guys imagine the Power Wagon Ram with 380 HP stock. That would be lovely.
That hummer H3T looks alright.
The H3 looks FUGLY though but the truck model looks alright
And looky here Hummer H3T Concept from a few years back.
At the time, the concept vehicle looked OK, too.
Well, except for that bit of silliness around the lights in back.

That's not surprising; Consumer Reports came to the same conclusion several months ago in their towing test. The Tundra pulled their 7,500 lb test trailer to 60 mph faster than any half ton by a very wide margin. Then, they tested the Tundra against the Diesels just for kicks. It beat all the Diesels to 60 mph too, with the DMax being the closest contender. It beat the DMax to 60 mpg by 1/2 a second.

The F-150 is a good solid truck, but a it's badly out-dated design that is way down on power compared to the current competition. Even the Hemi and the new Silverado walk all over it. The 2009 F-150 is rumored to leapfrog the Tundra in power. We'll see.

Man, that IS pathetic. Sadly, Fords been to busy working on gadgets for the F150, rather than upgrading the component that counts the most - the engine.
A whole 10hp more than before.. ooooh, I hope the Engineering Dept didnt hurt their brains!
Though it won TOY, the way they rate them has very little to do with it competing against who is on the roster.
Their criteria are:
Superiority - engineering excellence, design advancment, utilization of resourses and safety.
Significant - how well it does it's intended job, it's impact on it's market segment, comsumer perception and product development trends.
Value - price per prformance, quality and functionality.
As you can see, in the halfton segment where the tundra competes in the tundra infact does excel very well. More so than the HD trucks in the roster in which the segment they compete in. It has nothing to do with the fact that the f450 can haul/tow more than the tundra or that the tundra is faster than all of them in performance.
But in any case, I'd like to see all the halfton do a head to head competition for kicks.

The f150 is falling behind, all they're doing really is upgrading, it's not even a new truck, just refresh, same deal with their SD, it's still the ole style with upgrades. They can call it new I guess, it does have a new revised grill, fenders and rear. I consider new to be the ram, a totla redisign instead of a refresh.

I dont care what the magazines say, they are all paid anyway.
I was a Ford Guy since I was a kid until 2001:
2001 new Tundra Access Cab, replaced by 2005 Tundra Double cab (wrecked) and replaced by a 07 Lexus ES350 UL.
2001 Sienna, replaced by 2004 Sequoia, replaced by 2007 Honda Pilot (Crap), replaced after 8 months by a 2008 Tundra DC LTD
I used to hack on my dad for buying Acuras and Mercedes...hmmm now I know why he bought those.
I will NEVER buy a Ford, Dodge or Chevy (maybe a Vette) or Honda again. But look right now I can Tow 10K, we are off road motorcyclists and now I can tow a real toy hauler, I know a lot of folks that tow TH's and they love the Tundra and those who dont have one all regret not buying one. I have a friend that drives a Ram 3500 Mega Cab and only because he needs to tow 14K, otherwise he would love to have my Tundra. But his truck is pretty cool, he cant drive it to work though, works downtown.
Bottom line is the Toyota's are better quality, reliable, comfortable and do what I need. I dont need another reason to continue to buy them, I wont stray again and that Honda sucked...dont get me going on that piece of crap. , want to hear road noise, drive any Honda. Oh one more thing...my Tundra is built here in the USA.

The Tundra walks all over them in the performance cat. and they said the quiteness of the Tundra is Excellant and there is not another truck that is as quite and if there is one they have not found it....lol
They said in the Seq article that 4H can be used on dry pavement? I think thats a mistake because doesnt the Seq use the same driveline as the Tundra? It doesnt have an AWD mode?

I dont know about the new Sequoia, but in our 04 the 4wd was different than my tundra, 4wd was fine on dry pavement, to truly be in a real 4wd you have to use the lockout function. Probably the same thing in the new one.

It has a center differential that can be locked/unlocked, which allows full time 4wd if desired.
