TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "20 inch wheels vs 18 inch wheels", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I'd go with 18s if I had a 33" tire. If I had 20s, I'd have to go at least with a 35" tire. 18s on 35" tire would seem like TOO much tire...unless anyone has a pic to prove me wrong.
Here's 35"x18". Much better for off-road than 20"

Either way is not the end of the world, but if you want to do some off-roading then the smaller wheel/bigger tire rule is for sure the way to go. I would have to disagree that you would "need" a 36" rubber as a minimum to off road with. Anything you drive on has its own set of requirements, the bigger your tire the better your clearance. But if your idea of off road is a well traveled trail thats fairly dry, the rugged trail is probably enough tire for many users. I have higher puncture risks and a lot of snow so I went to the All terrains, not worth the cash if you don't think you will need em.

I agree, i think i will look for 18s with a 32-33 inch, i am not ready to lift yet. My old Dodge 12 valve with 35 inch MTR,S does very well off road
i have a set of the trd stock 18" wheels that i wanna swap for a set of the stock 20' wheels pm me and let me know if anyone is interested mt tires and wheels have less than 3k miles and still look new.
If you decide to go with the 20's buy the largest tire you can fit, especially when it comes to sidewall.......I am happy with the width of mine, but I wish I had more sidewall........they are 285/55/20........

Hey billyboy123, can you post a picture of your truck, thinking of doing the same thing. Thanks
I am thinking of swapping my 20 inch wheels for 18 inchers, i would a little more tire and save a little money at replacement time. The 08 came with the 20,s i would rather have 17 or 18 s. I am old school, give me pros & cons of both. I have (sometimers) an crs at times. Help me make up my mind.
