There is no distributor in our Tundra. Instead, we have a coilpack at each sparkplug and the spark is sent electronically instead to each sparkplug.

Coilpack only, one for each cylinder...see page 16 on the attached PDF for more information.

I assume we are talking about the 5.7, cause I don't know on the 4.7.

4.7 is also the same thing.. no distributor - coil pack. I own a 4.7L myself.

Other people post them, and I dig them up on internet searches, I save them all in case I need to work on something.
But I also have a photographic memory, so if someone asks it, and I've seen the answer, I can find the resource.

Yep, they're sure appreciated since they want a fortune for the complete shop manuals. I always save'em for future reference. Skyhammerz posts lots of good ones too.

I don't think anybody has made a car or truck with a distributor since about 1999/2000.

Toyota sure hasn't. Most everything is coil packs now days.

I believe mxsjw you have gotten some beer for a couple of my PDF's

You can also get them from being a Toyota master tech or by subscribing to TIS.

You could just keep posting them and I'll just keep snagging them up.
I'll gladly share the beer.
Sooner or later I'll have them all...

Default Re: Tundra has coilpack or coil and distributor?

For reference, Toyota VVT-i motors use independent spark COPs (coil on plugs), so there's a coil on every cylinder. 98-00+ motors without VVT-i use wasted spark COPs or external coils (2 coils for a 4 cylinder) with traditional wires. For example, the 1MZ without VVT-i used three COPs on cylinders 2, 4, and 6 and three high tension spark plug wires on the opposing cylinders 1, 3, and 5. So, there's spark in cylinder 1 during the intake cycle, and cylinder 4 during the exhaust cycle. Independent spark is more accurate, as it only fires once per cylinder, and is needed for VVT-i/DVVT-i.

Later on, Toyota integrated an igniter in the COP, eliminating the need for a separate igniter assembly. However, this increased the cost and fragility of the COP. Do NOT drop any COP, but especially one with an integrated igniter assembly. It's $$$$ to replace.

More than you guys needed to know, I bet.
