This is a discussion thread titled "Goin on a bit of a trail ride", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Hey guys, I MIGHT be going on a trail ride this weekend with a few friends. Just so happens it's my birthday as well.
I was originally gonna go with this Jeep. 3" body lift and some MTs
However, now I'm going to go with a freakin' awesome Land Cruiser. Last time he was out there he flooded his engine though. Then fan caught some water and did some major damage. He had a Taco pull him out.
And lastly, I'm going with a RCSB Dodge Ram 4x4. I swear that thing has a lot more clearance than my truck and I'm pretty sure it's stock.
It shouldn't be too challenging, the part I'm going to go on. I don't want to go up or down any steep hills (gotta keep the exhaust intact) and I have protection if I need it. I might order myself a D ring to put in my tow hitch just in case I get stuck from behind. I don't plan on getting stuck but it's better $20 safe than sorry. I can't wait.
I will NOT be driving anywhere that I am going to risk getting damage, such as the sharp turn at the very beginning or the hill where the Jeep dragged it's tow hitch.
I should hopefully post some pics.

OH yeah, and I might add it's gonna be rainy Friday and Saturday with like 50% chance of rain. I hope it doesn't rain TOO much because it can get pretty dicey out there I hear.
Haha thanks guys. Bday's Saturday so it'll be awesome. It's POURING right now and all the streets are flooded.
I like the trail rig too! What brand lift do you have?
Oh yeah, my neighbor might be taking his 2wd Tundra out there. Identical to mine without the exhaust, Ranch Hand and his is the TRD package. He'll probably get stuck a few times but it'll be well, well worth it! If all else fails, the LC will be able to pull ur'body out.
Here's the LC

That's a great way to spend a B-day - Hopefully one of your bunch has a winch and everyone should carry a good snatch strap. Strong anchor points front and rear are mandatory. Factory tow hooks are usually ok for winching, but I've seen em rip out of the frame rails when snatching. Enjoy - this is how memories are made.

Say it aint so. Sacrilegious. Darn shame to ruin a perfectly good LC like that. You gotta love your LC and treat it right, you know?

Yeahh he sank into a water pit. They sprayed some Water Displacement on the 40th try (yeah I just pulled out the big words there, wd-40 for those who don't know) on the distribution cap but it kept dying. I don't think there was any long term damage from that as he drove it tonight to dinner. He did have other engine damage earlier this summer though.
To be quite honest, I hope this rain holds up for the weekend and that it's just a tad bit muddy. I don't really have the funds to do a tranny flush. As long as it's not sitting there stuck for a long period of time am I good?

Yeah it should be a lot of fun. Hopefully I won't be getting stuck with 'er in 4wd. That D-hook should be a good investment. The guy with the LC said his brother has one on his Taco and it works well. He should have all the tools just in case, but I can borrow my friend's tow rope for his Jeep (I just hope it's a high enough rating).
Sounds like a lot of fun...I love going out with my buddies in all their Jeeps. Def let us know how you do and post lots of pics please!!
Just don't come back with a pic like this...That's my buddy's Rubicon Unlimited at Tellico...

Remove your electrical receiver from your hitch and tie wrap it up behind the bumper near the spare. You won't hurt the hitch if you drag it, but it's an expensive mistake dragging the electrical connection off. I learned the hard way on my last truck, so this was one of my first mods on the Tundra.
__________________ 07 DC SR5 TRD 4x4 5.7 TRD exhaust, 35K miles, 17 mpg city after battery disconnect reset & removing extra (charcoal?) air filter. Truxedo Lo-Pro with deck rails.
Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43."
Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper.
After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/18 or 35x12.50/18.
Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Foam pad above spare to help with bed bounce.
Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks and foam pad above spare. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now.
Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed.
Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

meh...that's what cruisers are for....
Be safe and have fun....if it rains that could get iffy if you don't have mud tires....your truck is pretty heavy, and I can picture lots of mud being tossed around and no trucks moving! But thats why you have the land cruiser with you!

Exactly haha. That's why I'm askin him along. He can't get stuck in anything I wanna do. Did I mention he's got a TRD supercharger?
If it's this cold (32*) Saturday, I won't be freezing my manhood off doing this. If it's 58 like it's schedule to be, it's on!
Good idea on the electrical receiver. Already bent it once and I don't wanna do that again!
