Recently, I've installed a Kenwood DNX7100 with all the bells and whistles associated with it as well as a Kicker CVT10 pushed by a Kicker 300 watt one channel amp. Obviously, the next step would be to replace the OEM speakers which everyone seems to be pretty fond of! I know there are a ton of opinions out there about 6 1/2 vs. 6x9 and tweeter location. Given my current set up, what would you recommend? If i get front components, I'd probably install the tweeters in the factory dash location. Is it worth going with components with this set up or just get some good 2 or 3 way door speakers? What speaker adapters are ya'll using, what about speakers? I'm still on the fence about either getting an additional amp, would the DNX have enough juice itself? Thanks in advance for the help fellas, I'll be sure to post some pics after I get it installed!

I had Infinity Reference speakers installed, 6x9 fronts and 6.5' in the back. The 6x9's had to have the bracket modified and I'm considering taking off the front doors and using a heat gun to "bulge" out the plastic screening. I think someone here has done that before.
if you already have a sub, i would go with 6.5 component in the front with tweeter in the dash and 2 way 6.5 in the rear. if you go with a 6x9 in the front door, be sure the mounting depth will fit. i bought a 6x9 pioneer TS-D691R and its way too deep. i ended up with pioneer 6.5 component in the front and 2 way 6.5 in the rear door. you can buy the mounting adapter on ebay and its easier then going out and making them. after my install i didn't like the sound of the pioneer tweeter so i swap them out for some 8 year old mb quart reference series tweeter that i had under my bed and it sound 1,000 better with crystal clear highs and not as harsh as the pioneer. yes believe it or not the pioneer tweeter was harsher then the mb quarts and alot of people said the the mb quarts is already a harsh sounding tweeter but thats what i like.
Thanks for the advice fellas, I'll probably go with the 6.5 components up front. What would be good make and model for the price and which speaker adapter combination? I'm looking for clear highs mainly. Given the dash location, who makes a good tweeter for that setup (which mb quartz were you using?). Finally, would I need an amp to power these or would they sound ok running off the DNX? Sorry for all the questions!
I have MB Quart qrd 6.5 (I think a 2006 version) I got on clearance on Woofersetc.com. Extremely pleased with their clarity. You will need another amp to run these. I first tried using the stock JBL amp and it was pitiful. Lots of people on this site seem to like Focal speakers as well
Take a look at the new Image Dynamics XS-69 Component set. Stock size up front and would sound better than anything you have probably ever heard before. Sound deaden your front doors and throw one of their new IDQ10v.3 subs in the back, and it will knock your socks off. Just by a good quality amp, like the Alpine PDX-4.150 and you can run the comps and the sub off the one amp. You don't need rear speakers. I would also install a nice head unit or if you wanted, an A/V unit. I don't need NAV so I am going to be installing just a basic head unit (Alpine CDA-9887) in mine...
you can take the best sounding speaker and hook it up to the stock unit (JBL or non-JBL) and it will sound horrible. i hooked my speaker to my alpine headunit and it sound good. then later i hooked it up to an amp and it sounded great. just hook it up without an amp for now and it you dont like it then add a amp later. the mb quarts i had was the reference series that i bought 8 years ago but they still do make the reference series. awhile back mb quart was bought out by another company but still kept the name. before the buy out, they were made in germany but now it think its china or some other country. mb quart is still a really good speaker even though its not made in germany anymore. i wished i would of spent a little more money and bought the mb quart instead of the pioneer.
