TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "New Red Crewmax", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Ok, I bit the bullet and traded in my 06 Access Cab on a 08 Crewmax. The kids were getting bigger, and it was more and more of a squeeze to get them in the back.
Pluses - waaay more room and more power. I do NOT miss the suicide doors from the AC. I love the power rear window.
Even - the bed is a foot shorter, but a tad wider and a lot deeper. I can live with it. Size wise, the truck seems like it fits pretty much where my access cab fit. I've included a pic of it in a city underground garage. Very important that it can navigate here.
Minuses - so far, about 2mpg less across the board. Not bad for lugging 800 pounds more around.
Questions -
Can you get some type of dash covering to cover over the paint around the dials? I've seen the fake wood ones - yuk, not for me.
What's a good price for a bedliner? I really do want a slide in, as in my experience this protects the bed far better than spray in's. The local Toy dealer wants $300, including a discount for the factory one.
Thanks

Congrats
You forgot to mention the 5.7 motor
I have a drop in that came with my CM and it is okay, but If I were you, I'd go for the real thing. Line-x or rhino liner will set you back somewhere around $400.
Plus, if water gets under the drop in, it could rust

FUTURE MODS -
25-30 ft Travel Trailer....... bye bye Pop-Up
great job. i too am a drop in liner supporter. the spray ins look ok at first but after a year or so they all seem to get chalky or hold dirt or something...i dunno. drop ins wont hurt anything except maybe the bed paint but guess what? its covered anyway so who cares.
See post above, I gave my liner away to someone who was going to make a sled with it for hauling decoys behind an ATV I left the piece on the tailgate and bought a rubber mat for the floor, I have a topper on it that never comes off.
I'd go for the spray in. I had a drop in in my 03 tundra and it got nasty under there. I had to pull it out and wash the crap out all the time, and I still started rusting in under a year. I've had Rhino (and bullhide) spray-in on the last 2 trucks, and it washes out to look brand new. Not a huge difference in price and a LOT lower maintanence.
Congrats on the new rig.
Oh, had a rubber bed mat in a 97 F150 with similar problems as the drop in.

Do you really care what truck I have or what mods I've done? Probably not, but here they are any way:
Loaded 07 LTD 4x4 DC 5.7. ARE Cap, Yakima Rack, Toytec 3" Lift, ProComp 8166 Wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler 305/55/20's, Bullhide Spray-In Liner, Volant CAI, Black Headlight Mod, Zoomers Cat back exhaust.
Still to Come: Headers? Speaker/Sub upgrades? What else? Supercharger........? I'm sure I'll think of something.
Thanks for the replies, guys. I updated my signature to now state 5.7L. How could I have forgotten!
I really like the red. I had a red T100, and I've missed the color ever since.
As to the bedliner, I have had both spray in and slide in. Living in the PNW, I have never had an issue with bed rust and slide ins. This includes plenty of running time near saltwater. I take them out once a year and clean and wax the bed. That's it. The spray ins look nice, and don't rattle around, but offer no impact resistance. I lug lots of wood chips and firewood around, and like the ability to use a shovel in the bed worry free.
I'll see if I can't get one of the dealers to budge on the price, or maybe look at a Penda Liner.
Thanks
