TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "TUNDRA LIFT... I'm doing it... please comment!!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Well I have decide to lift this big truck.. and I would truly appreciate from those that have researched it and even more from those that have done it... your advice.. opinion..
I don't use this truck for off-road... I'm sure I will once I get this done but mostly just for the looks of it. Why.. cause I like it.. I really don't want a stiff ride.. or huge noise from the big tires so let me know if I'm headed the right direction.
I'm about to order the toytec 3" lift kit with the 1" block for the back... I will stick with the stock rims... I kinda like the way the look and I will put on the BFG T/A K/O 305/65/18 tires... I think I got all that right... From what I have read these are great tires... I like the way the look too.... so my question or concern is about the tires having clearence... will I have to do anything else?? How will the ride be?? Are these tires loud on the road?? I will, of course, know these answers soon once everything is done but would sure like to hear any comments before I can't turn back...
I just think this set this apart from all the other Tundra owners I see and from what I have learned from this forum I'm headed the right direction... Most likely I will take it to the dealer to get the kit installed... so I can always take it back there if I experience any problems...
Thanks in advance for reading and for any comments or suggestions..

Check out Rancho Quick Lift
you might change your mind.
Im not a mechanic but a few friends (including one thats a mechanic) has told me not to do a body lift. I dont wanna put excess strain on my CV joints or front suspension. Especially after reading that post. Ive deceided to wait and get a suspension lift

I just had the Truxxx lift installed. I also had the BFG 305/65/18 put on. I didn't notice any change in ride, the tires are not loud on the road, the only difference I noticed is the truck handles a little differently because of the higher front end when going around turns. The truck looks a lot better now. You do have to either bend or cut the skid plate a few inches because the tires will rub at full lock. Good luck with your decision, you're gona love it when it's finished

Thanks for that... I just spoke to Darren over at Truxx and he seemed very knowledgable.. he is the owner... seems like a better idea then the spacer the way they do it..... anyone else have any experience with this?
Thanks

Good question... I couldn't tell ya.... I was told to just lift the front up and leave the back... I know now that isn't the right way to do it..
maybe someone has an idea...

People put blocks in the rear because it's cheap and it doesn't effect the ride. I put an add-a-leaf in one of my trucks and it made it ride like crap. I think new springs are a must if you are lifting the rear end of your' truck more than 3" because a block that big can give you axle wrap but I don't think a 1" block is going to give you any ill effects.

Truxx suggest putting the 3" lift in the front only of the older DC because the front sits so much lower than the AC. I'm going to lift the front first and if its too high the lift the rear.
From what I can tell people go with the blocks because aal's make the back right stiffer.

I have the same setup on my CM, only thing I had to do was trim the skid plate about 3 in on each side so the tires cleared at full lock, pictures will be coming soon. Love the ride now, truck looks BAD TO THE FRAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting about the blocks. I guess 1" is not that big of a deal. I have been looking at the KORE setup for my Ram and they replace the rear springs for just a one inch lift, but it's EXPENSIVE!
Check them out as they are developing stuff for Toyota too, but it's just not out yet.
My toytec 3" with 1" rear block is SOLID. I have put this this lift through sooo much stress and it really performs like an improved sporty factory suspension. Doing 45mph on a dirt/sand off road trail that I should've been going slower on but I have 4x2 so I didn't want to get stuck...long story short I hit two big humps in a row and got air twice with the toytec kit and I couldn't believe everything was still intacted and the Tundra still drove perfectly straight after air TWICE and stupid redneck girl in back seat smashed her hed into the sealing twice and I'm glad to say the sealing held up too lol. Truxxx, Revtek, Toytec, etc they are all good IMO.
