TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Why should I get vent visors?", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have never had them before.... but I was considering buying them..... I was looking at the weather tech in channels in dark smoke.... anyone have pics on a Crewmax? I did search and found some info.... but I would like more....
Also, if I get stick on instead of in-channel..... how bad is it on the paint if I ever want to remove them..... I thought I read somewhere that you should sand before you install.... don't think I want to do that.....
Thanks for any feedback and any pictures
~ Shady.....

25-30 ft Travel Trailer....... bye bye Pop-Up
I have them and defintely get in channel, looks better. They keep rain from drippin in and also keep frost off about 8inch of top glass. For 30-to 40 bucks on ebay can't go wrong. Sorry no picks.
I liked them back when I was a smoker for obvious reasons, but nowadays, I really can't see the need to have windows open while it's raining.
If you go with the stick-on type, do not sand first, just be sure you clean the contact surface with the provided alcohol pads and do it when it's warm out - in the sun, to get a strong bond.

I just put a pair of the sticky kind on last night "AVS", I actually like them better ...
As far as sanding goes some of the vent visors on some cars go on the hard rubber around the windows so it comes with a little scuff pad ... new Tundra's vent visor stick on's arent designed that way ... just make sure you use some wax and grease remover on the paint and get everything off of it (wax etc) and then right before you stick them use the alky prep pad and you wont have any problems, its all in the initial install on the stickies, if you do them right you wont have any problems.
The in channel is a preference and can sometimes can bind the top of the window, but as far as I have seen on here everyone seems to like those as well and don't have many problems with them ... so get whichever, I think they both look great ... but then again my truck is Black so you can't tell they are stuck on, I might have went with in channel had it been a different color but I really don't know.
Anyway good luck on whichever you pick, I like to keep my window down a little in the rain for some reason it just seems less confining, I may have issue's lol
I would probably go with the in channel. I had the stick on ones on my last truck and some tard tried to break into my truck, pulling the vent visor off and prying into the window. And after you clean, scuff and put the 3m adhesive on, its was really hard to make it look decent again, i didn't end up putting it on.

i hate the in channel ones, every pair i have ever had falls off, scratches the window, makes scraping grinding sound when rolling up or down, and when the window is down and i go over bumps the window rattles, i am getting rid of these and going to stick on
Good for dog owners on rainy days. You can lower the window some and not let rain soak the door switches and your seats. If the pooch is too big, you need to open both windows to the limit of the visor. Had good luck with the in channels so far....

What kind of visors have you owned that scratched things up? I just had some AVS inchannels put on yesterday and they look awesome. I can't wait to use them to my advantage during the spring and fall months.
I just got the in the channel ones put on--I was leary at first cause of some of the above statements but they fit perfect with no rubbing or binding and seem to be holding well but only time will tell on the last one--but they do look alot better---used them when I smoked and guess I put them on out of habit--no they look nice and still like to have window cracked in the rain

I just got the AVS in channels. They are still a stick on (double sided tape) but it goes on the inside. There is no rubbing or binding or any chance of them coming off. I did the visors because here in Florida, it gets very hot. They have helped keep the cab at lower temps, which in the long run, should help the interior.
