Here in liberal Washington I know I can always count on them to introduce a bill to take away our hard earned money.
If there are any liberals in here please explain to me why you enjoy giving your money to the government? Wait... do liberals even work? Hmm... maybe that's the problem.

Dont forget the ever popular "piggyback" thats all to common with Democrats.
They'll slip it in with something else

Re: New tax based upon the size of the automobile engine being proposed!
It would be ironic when cars using larger engines that get good mileage, enough to at least avoid the gas guzzler tax, now have to pay this tax; when cars with smaller engines that get worse mileage don't.
.. but then again another irony is that WA doesn't have state income tax.. so maybe this is another motivation
Re: New tax based upon the size of the automobile engine being proposed!
They used to have a similar system in England. They have a system now based on CO2 emissions. A car could cost you around $600 a year.

The typical 2008 Tundra owner would be charged $325 a year.

It's not dead. This whacko that sponsored and wrote the bill was on KVI-570 Conservative Seattle talk-radio station and espousing and arguing for it. An hour later after he had left the air, his and every other eco-commie in our state had their phones and email in-boxes jammed by outraged citizens. His office lied and told people the bill was dead, and that's what everyone is getting from their Democrat Rep's and Senators, and it's a lie. In Washington State any bill that raises revenue is not dead or subject to the Feb. 12th rule EVER. It stays alive until the end of the session, or special session if one is convened after our regular session (we are a part-time legislature). It can theoretically be attached as an amendment to any budget or supplemental budget bill because it is a revenue generating bill. (see Senator Val Stevens, R. explanation of this at the bottom of my original blog posting under update in comments: BednarzBlogSpot: Democrat Eco-Commies in Olympia and D.C. Must be stopped! It can also be re-introduced next year. The only way to ensure this doesn't happen is for Washingtonian's to let them know how they feel about this bill so they don't dare take the political risk of allowing this bill to become law.
Let me also comment on earlier comments about this being Wash., Left coast lib's, just like CA etc. Yes, this state is going Left, because people aren't saying enough is enough. We just adopted CA emissions for OUR state a couple of years ago. Tax schemes such as this are insipid, and it sets a precedent, then they take something else, or add some other new tax (last year they added sales tax to Internet and out-of-state catalog purchases for 40 million a year that goes into effect July 2008) It wasn't too long ago Ronald Reagan won this state. In 2004, Dino Rossi a Republican was elected Governor. The election was razor sharp, but he had more votes on the first recount, but in heavily Democratic King County, home of Seattle and it's Daleyesque political machine...the margin went down on the 2nd recount, when they "found" more ballots but he still prevailed. Then Christine Gregoire demanded a 3rd recount and after MORE ballots that were found yet again in King County elections department the 3rd and final recount put her over him by 129 votes.
This stuff spreads like a cancer, we have to remove it from the body before it spreads, EVERYWHERE.

How about a good old **** You! I'm a proud liberal/progressive and I'll wager I've easily worked harder than you my whole working life. I just don't have my head up my *** when it comes to the future of the environment we live in.
