99% of those are junk. What they are calling a chip is usually just a resistor to for the Inlet Air Temp sensor to fool the vehicle into thinking it has nice cold air all the time. If the air outside is already cold it does nothing, if the air outside is warm or hot it will keep the timing adjusted to make use of the cold air it is not getting. The knock sensor should pick up any problems and retard the timing, but at worst there is a possibility of damaging the engine. Most likely you might see a tiny increase in HP but really not worth the potential for problems.
