TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Lost Roof Trimwork", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Happened to me too. The dryer at the touchless car wash blew it clean off. Snapped it back in and haven't had it happen again. Interesting that it seems so common. Scared the crap out of me though b/c it slapped the windshield a couple of times like something out of Alien.
I haven't had the issue with my '07 Tundra, but I did with my '05 Tacoma. Came off in car wash and after I put it back on, it wouldn't lock down cleanly, resulting in a tapping noise on the roof when driving! Then it came off while driving about 70 mph on a busy interstate. I didn't stop to pick it up. Went to dealer and they replaced it under warrantee. A couple of months later, same thing happen at car wash and then the tapping again! Went to dealer and they did not seem as willing to assist, although they admitted they had the same problem with "a few" other customers. So I called Toyota headquarters and opened a ticket. They had a regional service person come to the dealer and replaced both of the trim with another set, using an updated sealent. Problem never reoccurred before I decided to step up to Tundra.

My son had his come loose in a touchless carwash and took it to the dealer in Kansas near where he currently lives. They told him it was designed to come loose. BS if you ask me.
Don't know when I lost mine but the dealer had no issues in replacing it. Service guy told me not to wash it for 24 hrs as the glue had to dry???? Maybey they didn't want it to come off again.

When I put on my GPS antenna, I pulled the driver's side up, put the antenna lead under it and pushed it back on. No problem so far, but I hand wash the beast.
Dealer replaced it no questions asked. Took about 5 minutes as others are reporting. They said they put a little silicone sealant on the anchor points to keep it place better.
Me too.... left for Florida 2 fridays ago roof trim intact. Drove through massive snow storm on the way down (from Toronto) and massive thunder storms in atlanta on the way back.....result.... passenger side roof trim now missing. I'm off to the dealer tomorrow.
Mine is off for the third time. All that is holding these strips is a piece of double sided tape that measures 10mm x 20mm (3/8" x 3/4"). No wonder they won't stay on. This is a lousy design.

Well I have the 1st gen. Tundra. Just recently that strip has come loose near the back where it turns the sharp corner to head down to the rear window.
I pulled it up and also found that it is held with small strips of 3m double side tape. I may go get some tape and try that again. But another member posted that this stuff works great, might want to give it a try: 5 oz. tube of 3M Super Weatherstip Adhesive P#051135 08008, supposedly available in any automotive paint store.

I joined the club...noticed today while washing at the car was that the passenger side piece was loose at the back...the double sided tape released the clip...gotta be a better adhesive for this...
