TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "OEM y-pipe & aftermarket y-pipe", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I don't think there is a "Y pipe". There are two smaller pipes from the engine to the muffler, which has dual inlets. Then a single 2 3/4" pipe exits the muffler as the tailpipe. The "Y" is inside the muffler.
He was probably thinking of something like that Banks exhaust with the pics...It has a y-pipe into single pipe before muffler. With the stock configuration you could run an aftermarket x-pipe or h-pipe depending on what type of sound you were looking for.

Yes, you guys are correct. I asked the question wrong. What I would like to know is the oem size of the stock pipes thats between the headers and muffler.
When I get ready to do my own exhaust, this piece will probably be part of it. It appears to provide a smoother transition from 2 to 1 than some of the $600-$700 systems.

that's exactly what i'm doing. i just need to know what the stock pipe size is between the headers and muffler. i'm thinking it's 2.5", but i'm not 100% sure.

Exhaust pipe outside diameter measurements:
At rear of catalytic converters: 2 3/8 inch
From post catalytic flange to factory muffler: 2 1/8 inch
Out of muffler to exhaust tip: 2 3/4 inch
Dude, you da man. I don't think any of those numbers are standard exhaust pipe sizes. Must be a 'Yota thing.

I'm not a motor type guy, so all this stuff about y pipes and h pipes is chinese to me. Is there a site I can go to, or can someone explain it briefly here, what these things are?
I understand from the headers, you might have a pipe from each header that feeds into one exhaust. Is that the "Y" you are referring too. And if so, then a 2 into 2 exhaust would not have a Y pipes, correct? If it is not correct, then forget everything I just said.
Would an H pipe be in place on the Y pipe since it is a 2 into 2 exhaust? If so, why must they be connected in any way. If not forget everything I said here too, then explain it to me please.
Dude, you got 'er down pretty good. There's way too much hype about X & H pipes.

Actually well proven and only shadowed by mass marketed vendors of X pipe configuration exhaust "kits"
Their more then ALIVE and THRIVING for those that utilize such tools.
Most common problem is people/shops that talk smack dont have the first clue on the proper placement for proper ultilazation of its unequaled "equalation" of exhaust flow.
