TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Couple small problems on a new truck", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Picked up my new Tundra and have two small problems. I can take it in for warranty (and test the USA warranty at Canadian dealer) but they are so minor I thought I would try and look at them first.
1) BRAKE light on dash cluster next to selected gear is sometimes on even if the brake is not engaged. Sometimes not.
2) getting a constant beep from rear drivers sonar when in reverse. But then sometimes it works fine.
At first I thought this was from the truck sitting on the lot in below freezing temps for such a long time, but then this week we got some above freezing temps and still both problems are intermittent.
I guess off to the dealer I go, but I like to go into their turf armed with knowledge, in order to cut through the bulls**t.

Reason: typos
When I had snow and condensation on my rear sonar sensor, it caused it to beep. After I cleaned it off, it stopped. Still happens occasionally, which is a reminder to wipe it off. Usually I also need to wipe off the camera anyway.
My brake light lit up and it was because the emergency brake hadn't completely returned to the "unengaged" position. Hasn't happened since.
Good luck. Hope you enjoy your new truck.

i found that sonar was a pain, I traded in my 1st 07 Tundra , glad the new 07 doesnt have it.
i actually like the sonar, it has actually saved me from backing into a car that i couldnt see. you definetely have to turn it off when your backing the trailer. i also had alittle ice on one of the sensors and it was beeping, but all in all i am pleased with it.
Well, brake light keeps being a pain. I have tried fiddling with the pedal with no success. So far seems to be no trend on why it comes on - as I never use the brake and when doing errands it is a dice roll when I turn on the truck if the light will be on or not.
Sonar I have tried to clean off but I suspect ice or something. Seems to work more than it does not. I will see in spring or when I go to dealer.
I am so busy I cant stand to leave my truck at the dealer to fix such small things, so I will tolerate them until my next service.
check your brake fluid to make sure the master cylinder is at the full mark. if for some reason its low it will trigger the light to come on and may come and go if the level fluctuates going around corners, bumps etc. im assuming the tundra is like 99.99999 percent of the other vehicles out there as this can happen in any of them...
Same thing happened on my Tundra about the brakes, I fill and fill and fill again. I fill the ting about 4 times within 4000 miles. Each time, it went down to Min from Max. I brought it to dealer twice, 2nd time they found out it was a master cylinder leak. Gave me a new master cylinder no prob since. Haven't heard any threads about that, and didn't want to start another riot/rumor about the Tundra. Just make sure the fluid level is OK, and have dealer check it out.
About the back up sonar. Mine did that with condensation inside the sensor, but after clearing it it worked fine. It does go off when I go through drive-through since I pull up so close. I did turn it off b/c it just kept beeping. I forgot to turn it back on and drove around like that for 2 weeks. So don't make that mistake.
