This is a discussion thread titled "nitto terra grapplers or toyo open country a/t", within the Tires and Wheels forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I'm going to be ordering my wheels and tires tomorrow, but was wondering which tire has the more aggressive tread: nitto terra grapplers or toyo open country?
i was originally gonna go w/ the nittos, but then i saw toyo was on sale for $20 cheaper per tire. if both have the same (or close to) the same tread depth, i might just go w/ the toyos.

Ya...I like them Coop's you got on your truck. Congrats BTW...your truck looks great! (Saw pics from your other post)
Your pics actually helped me decide to go 285s...I was originally thinking I had to go with 305s (only had limited choices) and was forcing 325s, but then I was worried it might rub with the 2.5" lift I just ordered. I think 285s will do just riiiiight. I'm looking for 285/65R18 or greater (34" max).

I def would've got 285/65's if the Coop's came in that size but they didn't and I got a sick deal so I went with the 285/60's...Yea I def like the thick looks of my tires...Thanks for the compliment. 285's are definitely wide enough for 34" tires. Good luck with your setup.

Re: nitto terra grapplers or toyo open country a/t
Here you go man...I actually bought them from the Discount Tire store and they gave me a $160 trade-in on my tires (13k mile stock Duelers) plus I brought in the $25 coupon they have going on for FL. Basically I ended up paying about $120 per tire out the door which I thought was amazing. In total out the door with mount/balance etc it was $537!
Re: nitto terra grapplers or toyo open country a/t
I put on 285/65-18 Terra Grapplers on mine and I like them so far.

Re: nitto terra grapplers or toyo open country a/t
The Toyo's and the Nittos are very similar in style and performance. The Nittos have a slight advantage in the aggressive look, as the tread block shoulders are staggared, making them look slightly moreso. The Toyo's are available in a 305/60/20, which stands about 1" taller than the Nitto 305/55/20. The Toyos are also available in 305/55/20, but the 60 series would be a 34" and should fit under a 3" lift.

Do you really care what truck I have or what mods I've done? Probably not, but here they are any way:
Loaded 07 LTD 4x4 DC 5.7. ARE Cap, Yakima Rack, Toytec 3" Lift, ProComp 8166 Wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler 305/55/20's, Bullhide Spray-In Liner, Volant CAI, Black Headlight Mod, Zoomers Cat back exhaust.
Still to Come: Headers? Speaker/Sub upgrades? What else? Supercharger........? I'm sure I'll think of something.

What bigjoker said, I have them in 20's and the ride is smooth and not much noise. I have talked to some tire guy's and you can't go wrong with both, whatever tire choice you make will be good.

Very similar tread pattern. Toyo AT has more siping, which theoretically would do better in rain/ice/snow. Nitto "looks" better imo. For identical sizes, Nittos are usually cheaper out west.
I ended up with Toyo because Nitto doesn't make the size I wanted (285/75/18). Extremely impressed with the Toyo AT so far. Much better traction/ride/handling on the street than the BFG AT 306/65/18 I took off. Haven't been off-road yet with the Toyo.

Rear Susp: ProComp ES3000 #326510 (2.25" taller than stock), 1.25" blocks plus PRG mini-pack (http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...and-new-truck/) gives 2.25" total lift, parking brake cable bracket spacers, wheel well height 43."
Front diff and rear ds drop; trailer hitch electrical harness tucked up above bumper.
After 20K miles swapped 305/65/18 BFG AT for 285/75/18 Toyo AT, still on stock 18x8x60 offset TRD wheels, about 1/8" clearance to sway bar. Like the extra height but miss the width. Next time either 305/70/18 or 35x12.50/18.
Added 5th 285/75/18 Toyo AT as spare. Foam pad above spare to help with bed bounce.
Bed Bounce: Stiffer E-tires are worse than stock P-metric; biggest improvement from PRG mini-pack, slight improvement from shocks and foam pad above spare. Still a stiff ride but tolerable now.
Best things about this truck: 5.7 and transmission, interior size and comfort, very quiet at high speed.
Worst things about this truck: bed bounce, no VSC in 4wd, mileage sucks above 70.

I ordered the 2.25" front lift from Top Gunz...will the 305/55/20s fit with no rubbing?
