Yes. It's exactly like stock. Backup camera comes on when you are in reverse and the screen goes back to the nav when you put the transmission it in anything else. I have been driving around for the past couple of days testing the in's and out's of the system (for technical evaluation purposes only). Here are some things I've noticed:
  • When you switch the backup camera display either to watch the camera or watch auxiliary video, the nav thinks you are going backwards and will actually display your icon going backwards. Of course, it gives no guidance as long as you are in that mode, either watching the backup camera display or auxilliary video.
  • To get nav guidance, momentarily, you just switch the backup camera input off (green reverse wire input to stock configuration) and give the nav a few seconds to update your location and it will give you a guidance message. Then you can flip the switch back to give 12v current to the reverse wire input to the nav to see video again.
  • While you are doing that, the audio of your DVD player/iPod will still be playing the audio track of the movie.
  • During dark movie scenes, a backlight seems to come on which give the screen a milky appearance. I'm not ssure what the purpose of this is or what the trigger for this is other than a dark video input.
  • The picture quality is at least as good as portable DVD player. The colors are actually set to be more vibrant which make sense since realism isn't the major goal of the nav display and backup camera. It's surprisingly good.
  • If you are a consistent user of the nav, place the switches in a convenient place because you will be frequently switching to the nav or switching the backup camera on when you are in a parking lot, etc. if you have a passenger who is watching video otherwise. Remember that driving with a video display in the front is illegal in most states.
  • There is a faint high pitched whine with the DVD audio input that I didn't notice just using just audio from the iPod. This is with using the device battery as a power source. These are usually grounding issues and I'll bet that the low-power line-out of the DVD player isn't as clean as as an iPod with the volume maxed out.

Default Pac Nav

I wish I could say that this works, however, the picture slowly scrolls up vertically using this cheap joystick videogame. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the nav is a widescreen display. Need to find the v-hold control of the nav.

Is everyone who completed this mod still problem free? I want to perform this mod this weekend but don't want to regret anything.

Yes. 100% problem-free. This is a mod that I use all of the time.

You need several feet of wire and two SPDT switches.

The green wire in the grey connector in the pic below is the reverse signal (Wile E's pic) . 12 volts into the nav via this wire turns on the backup camera screen display. So, the end of the green wire that leads to the nav is soldered into the middle connector of the SPDT switch. Then the other end of the cut green wire attaches to one of the end connector and the other end connnector is attached to any 12v source such as the grey wire of the cigarette lighter. So, this switch turns on/off the backup display.

To intercept the video feed of the backup camera, find this connector.

Pin 22 is the positive lead for the video signal
Pin 23 is the negative lead for the video signal

So, cut these wires and connect the nav end to the middle connector of the other SPDT switch, the other cut end to one of the end connectors, and the other end connect to the inside lead of an RCA female connector

The all three ground wires: two from pin 22 and one from the rca female jack all get soldered together.

So the second switch toggles between the backup camera feed and the aux video feed.

Get one of these adapters to use in the aux audio input.

I know this probably isn't completely understandable but I'll be happy to answer any questions. The thread below describes the backup camera video feed in more detail:

http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...r-2007-tundra/

StatCoder,
Could you please help me out. I am a little confused on this. When you say cut these wires and connect the nav end to the middle connector of the other SPDT switch which pin 22 or 23 or both? Also it says the other cut end to one of the end connectors, which pin? Finally it says the other end connect to the inside lead of an RCA female connector which wire from pin 22 or 23? Last when you say the inside lead of RCA female connector is that the tab that sticks up or the pole?
Thanks for all your help and sorry for all the questions. Maybe I am just not reading it right.
James

As you can see, it's been many months since I did this mod. From what I can recall, you are attempting to create a bypass each of the wires in pin 22 and 23 via the SPDT switch. Toggle the switch and the input becomes the RCA plug. Do it again and the input is the stock connection (for each pin). Just draw it out using the schematic for an SPDT switch.

I believe the inside lead (pole) of the female RCA connector is the postive so that would be pin 22.

Yeah I just did this mod 2 weeks ago thanks to stat, the center of the connector or the "pole" is the the positive so that will be switched through the switch. You have to cut wire number 22 and connect a wire to each side of the cut ends and run those new wires down to then new switch. The new wire that leads to the radio is going to go the common terminal on the spdt switch which is usually in the center of the switch (I would test it with a continuity meter first). The other new wire that you ran down is going to go to any one of the other terminals on the switch. Then the new wire that comes from the "pole" of the composite video connector is going to go the the last terminal on the switch. The piece that sticks up from the composite video connector is the negative and you are going to have to run that wire from the connector to wire number 23. Hope this helps good luck

The wires that carry a video signal need to be coax otherwise you will see horrible interference. You know, the kind that has a wire in the center surrounded by thick white plastic and then some kind of braided wire surrounding that. I just cut some wire from a RCA coax cable used for video in/out.

Great, thanks Stat. This inside is the positive and the outside is the negative right?
