Default Tundra 5th wheel rating

I have an 07 4x4 double cab Tundra with a 5.7L. I am looking at a 5th wheel toy hauler. Many rigs like Chevy for example have a bumper pull rating and a 5th wheel rating. I havent seen anything like that for the Tundra. Is it just the 10,300lb rating? Is anybody out there towing a big 5th wheel with a Tundra?

I am looking at the Ragen 32ft X-lite toyhauler. 7634lbs dry weight, 1800 lb dry hitch weight. Pin weight seems a little much, maybe add some air bags?

Opinions? Thanks guys!

Sequoia2003 has little shameless behaviour in the past.

The Tundra is a 1/2 ton with a payload rating of 1,500lbs so why would you want to over tax your rig at 1,800lbs and you have not added your passengers yet?

1800#s is too much pin weight, not safe on any 1/2 ton...

I will try to make the long story short....
Originally, the Tundra was bought to tow our dune buggy or Bronco II on a flatbed. Our Trailblazer wasnt enough to tow the Bronco. It really struggled to pull it up the mountains to the Rubicon!
Now our needs have changed and we originally wanted a race trailer with living quarters to put the Bronco in.... Tundra is way to small. SO then we figured we would get a toyhauler to put just the buggy in and just tent camp if we were pulling the Bronco. However the trailer needs to have 14ft of cargo for the buggy. The ragen X-lite was the lightest trailer that would fit our needs. However its a little too much for the Tundra. We figured to maybe push the limits for a year or two and use the Tundra to pull the trailer. Then see if Toyota has come out with a bigger truck or upgrade to a Duramax at that time. Since we cant upgrade both at the same time.
We really love the Toyota except for the tow rating. Any ideas when Toyota will come out with thier diesel or a bigger truck? We are really stuck on figuring out what to do.

GM Ford & Dodge are coming out w/diesels for their 1/2 tons in a year or two, so my guess is Toyota will have one around 2010 or 2011. But it looks like a 3/4 ton is what you need, even if a 1/2 ton had a diesel.

There are a lot of Tundras pulling 5th wheels if you search the forum you seem to have been hit by the weight police before any one could say anything at all . I tow a 29 ft 5er with a 1480 dry pin weight. I have air bags to keep load level. It has the power and the breaks are better than a 3 quater ton. so the supension is your choise to make.

It is probably just because I have the CrewMax - but my manual specifically states 5th wheel towing is not recommended. DC's may not have the same restriction. Have you read your manual to see if Toyo makes the same recommendation for DC's?

The double cab requires a regular slider hitch the crewmax has to have a special slider, but they do make it. If you do a search for 5th wheel towing you will find a lot of information on towing. I know there is a couple of posts on crew maxs. When the crew max and 5and a half foot boox came out they did not have a hitch for it ,they do now.

I don't want to be a party pooper & weight police, the max payload ratings are there for a reason, although our trucks are very capable, it will handle the weight without a sweat, the only concern i have is liability, if you were ever involved in a crash and an investigation proofs that the cause of the accident is due to overloading, you could be charge with criminal neglegance. Installing airbags does not increase your max. payload. If you dry pin weight is 1480lb all you have room for is a full tank of gas at 300lb, you are at your max before even getting onto the driver seat. You can argue with anyone here and win, but you can't argue with the law, personally, i wouldn't do it.

i dont know about everyone else but if your not going over by much on the limit and have made mods to help i dont see a problem but i do have problems with is seeing other people ( make and model doesn't matter) very clearly over loading their trucks i saw a f-150 the other day loaded so badly it was almost tucking the rear tires, thats not safe our trucks are capable of towing more than labeled ( not saying its good to go over them) but some limits as of tire capability are the reason for the lower specs
