Default Bed rattle

Driving my 07 crew ltd today and the weather was awesome, so I put the rear window down. There is a real annoying rattle coming from the bed/back end area. Almost sounds like something bouncing around in the bed, but it's totally empty. Can't hear it w/the window up at all. Get home and get the creeper out and crawl around under checking the spare tire, exhaust (still stock, so I didn't screw that up) and anything else that might be lose, but of course everything seems tight (never anything obvious or easy to find/fix) Any body have any thoughts/sugestions? Thanks OH I also noticed a few days ago that I now have the famous dash rattle on top of dash passenger side next to speaker. I know someone did a great diy fix on this so I will find that and fix soon. Thanks

Mine has done this a couple of time. I think it is coming for the bars inside the tailgate from the handle to each latch, or it may be the cables. I have not investigated mine much either.

I have the same noise you described. I have breifly come across other posts on this site refering to "bed bounce". I think it might be the same problem. I have been meaning to look into this myself. I am interested to know what the deal is too.

I don't have a bed liner, but I think that might cause some noise.

I had a noise from the bed and the tailgate cushions were missing. The dealer, Toyota of Morristown, NJ, refused to replace them. Told me that they couldn't fall out, someone had to remove them. (or didn't put them in at the factory, maybe?) I too, first noticed it with the rear window down.

That's what it was in my case....the Line-X guy didn't put them back on after he finished spraying my truck and couldn't find them when I went back there the next morning. The dealer parts guy couldn't find them on his system either so he pulled one off a new truck on their lot and the Toyota P/N was molded into the stopper. Two of them cost me about $5 and the rattle was gone.

It was the hitch not the reciever, I just added some shims to the hitch and
no more rattle in the back.

When I go over speed bumps or a rough patch of road it makes more than a rattle, I would call it a clunking noise. Is this the sound that you are referring to?

They are two small rubber buttons (one on each side) at the top of the bed sides right above the latches. I have never posted a picture here, but here is either the picture or a link.

Ya. Probably more of a"clunk" than a rattle. Very annoying.

I had the same issue last summer and the dealer replaced my rear leaf springs. Have'nt noticed it since, but it was when I'd angle over speed bumps in my parking garage at work.
