TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "In the Process of DIY BLack Headlights!!!", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
So after much contemplation of doing this, i'm literally in the middle of DIY black headlights!! Much thanks to 006 for his tutorial video!!!!!
I own a SLATE Grey 2008 Tundra X-SD ... I think im gonna debage it tomorrow.
Wish me luck!!
Update:
COMPLETED:
Before:
After:
Total Cost: Almost 2 hours and $9.04.
The only difference in the video in which i did was pop out the daytime driving light cover/cap and sprayed under it. I like it alot more that way because its really subtle when the lights are off... there isnt any chrome where it should be, but when its on, its Bright Orange. Other than that, i followed the tutorial step by step... even to the part of burning my finger tips!! Doh!

Very nice - sorry to hear about the burnt fingertips, haha. What's funny is I've done a few Tundras now, and you'd think I would have learned after the first time I burned my fingers...nope, I burn at least one finger every time I do the mod, lol.
Glad my video helped you out

That looks good. You just gave me another project for the wife to complain about. I'll definitely have to do it when it gets warmer. Thanks to 006 for the video tutorial, I saved it on my lap top when he first posted it. Too bad I don't live near Texas, otherwise I pay you to do mine.

Your wish is my command. haha, gimme a second, i'll post pics. This is the first one i've seen on a Slate... and it just happens to be Mine. =)
It came out AWESOME.
I think I like it. Do you have any other pictures - maybe some outside and from a bit farther away? I nned to be able to convince my gf that it will look good before I do it.

I did it that way, too. I like it a bit better, I think. It doesn't seem like it's negatively affected the light ouput on the blinkers too drastically. I definitely prefer the lack of a chrome "rectangle" in the top inside corners.
Someone did it where they masked a circle over the blinker to mimic the round high/lows. (Can't remember who), which would also be cool.
Nice work.

Do you really care what truck I have or what mods I've done? Probably not, but here they are any way:
Loaded 07 LTD 4x4 DC 5.7. ARE Cap, Yakima Rack, Toytec 3" Lift, ProComp 8166 Wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler 305/55/20's, Bullhide Spray-In Liner, Volant CAI, Black Headlight Mod, Zoomers Cat back exhaust.
Still to Come: Headers? Speaker/Sub upgrades? What else? Supercharger........? I'm sure I'll think of something.
